Carsley - "Tim Cahill not an Everton legend"

If you ask any blues who remember the title winning sides they probably won't consider cahill to be a legend at all same with ferguson!

But to younger blues they are heroes for giving something to cheer about during a bad spell in our clubs history plus they love the club as much as we do .

Also you could name a list of awful players who have won the league, champions league or even world cups who people wouldn't consider legends .

cahill will never be a legend to me, latchford is a step up from cahill and even he is no legend. Alan Ball is a legend and you cant put cahill in the same category

Ask any Man United fan if they consider blokes like Wes Brown and John O'Shea( 2 loyal, passionate and honest lads) as legends.I can bet my last dime that you will get a resounding NO.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo on the other hand - 2 lads that left Man U for more money and prestige at Madrid - are quasi-saints,legendary figures that are highly thought of. So your argument doesn't really hold water mate.

You're completely missing the point. Ronaldo and RVN were essential parts of trophy winning teams. If cahill had won a trophy he would be a legend because of that trophy win and his years of service.

I thought the Echo was disrespectful to Cahill today by suggesting he needs to reach for a Red Bull now to get a performance. Very clever that. Also a slap in the face for a player who gave his all but who's age is catching up with him.

I expect nothing more from those two chuckle heads O'Keeffe and Prentice at the Echo, like. Couple of yellow dog journalist biffs.

Well if Duncan ferguson is a legend then Tim should be, I loved Dunc but Tim has at least equalled his efforts and scored as many important goals...so if you are happy to call Dunc a legend then show Tim the same respect..TIM CAHILL EVERTON LEGEND...get him into the hall of fame asap.

Pretty much the same vein imo, but I feel 'cult hero', or somesuch, to be more fitting. NSNO, we shouldn't lower our standards 'cos we've won nowt for a while like.

It is tempting to call some players legends. But it cheapens the memory of true champions who played for the club and gives the impression that winning silverware is not paramount in determining who is and isn't deserving of the accolade. No one who's played in a Moyes team is a champion and. therefore, no legend.

Yes, spot on. That's the term that should be used.

Siilly throw away comment from carsley there , as it would Then have have to include moyes and his status to if its all about silverware , and Peter johnson(F.a cup) vs Bill (Blue gravel) .. and i doubt he would publicly say them things , so dont get why he even went there on tim

It's not about who is the better player, if I was to pick who was the better player I would choose Pienaar. I think people would say Cahill is more of a legend because of his loyalty to EFC.

Ahem...the first offer that came in for Cahill he was off like a shot!

I've been lurking on here for a couple of years and finally have registered. My user name gives away my era.....started supporting the blues when Billy Bingham was manager in the 70s and witnessed the glory years in the 80s.

The legend/icon debate is circular. Legend status has nothing to do with winning trophies as many have pointed out. It relates to other qualities, some subjective. Tony Hibbert might be viewed as a legend if he never scores for us, and for no other reason. He might be viewed as a legend if he does score, and for no other reason. He may never be viewed as a legend by some.

I'm on the icon/cult hero side (for me Hibbert will be a cult hero either way) on Tim Cahill. Gave his heart and soul to the club, to the limit of his ability and body. Fitting that his last act in the club's shirt was to have a pop at that t**t Cabaye for the incident with the ball boy.

Good luck Tim - fantastic servant of the club.

I understand what Carsley is getting at Cahill has been fabulous for us but the context is frightening, being part of arguably one of the worst periods of this clubs history ain't conducive to legendary status.

Not his fault just circumstance.

Look up the word ''legend'', then come back ,and tell me which story sounds more ''legendary'':

1) The average and one dimensional Aussie player signed from Millwall, who did nothing much to capture the imagination of the fans apart from scoring the odd goal with his head

or

2) The prodical son who returned to his spiritual home and rekinddled his devastating telephatic partnership with his mate Bainsey. The little maestro with braids who proudly showed off his '' God Is Great' T-Shirt'' after he ended Man United's title dreams at Old Trafford, this on his 3rd stint at the club. The little fella with a deep voice who shed a tear or two in an interview as he expressed deep regret for leaving his beloved Everton. The amiable lad who was chained to a pole in the dressing room by his teammates on his last day of his loan spell with us this year because they didn't want him to leave. That my friend, is the stuff that legends are made of.

(P.S :I will bookmark this and hopefully add: ''The genius that single handedly secured us Champions League Footie' in the 2012/2013' season).

Prodical?? If your going to make a point at least be accurate!!
