Anyone have or had a BMW 318d? Need something for about £3k only for the next 3 years or so and have seen a 2007 one with 120k miles. Looks decent and the review on Parkers is very complimentary but just wondering if anyone knows anything to watch out for etc?
They have a timing chain which has been known to fail and as bmws are rear wheel drive they are a c - - t to drive on snow and ice, but apart from that great to drive

Toyota Yaris, 57,000 miles on the clock, 14 years old. As it breezed through its MOT again, the guy said Mr Gonetomorrow, this car is bomb-proof. Me so happy, me could cry.
My 11 year old Polo with 101k on the clock passed its MOT with no problems last weekend. It’s served me very well. After having 2 Fords and a Citroen I’m sticking with German or Japanese cars from now on.

The guy in the garage I deal with is a taciturn type whose rare words carry much gravitas.
Last time I saw him at MOT-time, I airily asked "If I was to buy another car, what's your advice in general?"
"Get one made in the far-east," came the reply.

If I was older and didn't give a flying one I'd be tempted to get a Dacia. You get a lot of car for your money. I can't even think of a car manufacturer in the far East.

My missus rented me this bad boy this weekend, for my birthday. What a drive! At around 12mpg though I now regret the 220 mile journey.View attachment 21295

Set my heart on one of these as a schoolboy in the 70's. Found one three years ago in Jersey...a real basket case. Casually asked the garage for a price and got told £50,000-£60,000!!!! Ended up with a Panamera which is the nearest looks-wise...but doesn't have the style, elegance and authenticity of the Jensen

Having driven several Dacia's now - Sandero and a few Dusters - can say if you get/lease them from new - fabulous cars.

The Duster is 4x4 and we went 370km in an hour 45, so it's not slow, despite being a 1.5dCi with only 110hp.
You'd never get into a Dacia with your bulk, they're made for normal sized people
If anything they're made for people like him.

SWOL.

Just debating what to do got around £250/300 monthly budget probably get a polo from VW for that not sure what else...
Depends.

If it's straight from the dealership and you put forward a grand or two - the lease price gets reduced quite a bit. If you're looking at cars that calibre - honestly go for the Golf, much better. The bonus is that you get guaranteed service, and if a newer model comes in the money you've paid for your current car can get put forward to the new and you don't pay any differently.

Decent option if you've got the financial certainty and stability, cuz otherwise at some point, as I said, you'll miss a payment or something and they'll take it and you've put forward a bunch of money that you'll never get back.
