Quick car advice needed

Noticed her car is a little low on coolant.

A) what is coolant?

And

B) does it matter what type I top it up with?

Cheers in advance!
The coolant is what flows round the engine casing and through the radiator, keeping the engine temp regulated.

If it's low you need to top it up, you should use the manufacturers recommended coolant / anti freeze. What is it?

There are different sorts of coolant (at least here in the US). You may want to confirm you're getting the correct kind. Not sure what it will do if you use the wrong sort. If nothing else, you can add water temporarily (but it will all boil off rather soon is a quick fix at best).

I know my advice is timely; you're welcome.

You can get a waterless coolant now what doesnt corrode and has a higher boiling point so keeps everything cooler and you dont have to top it up or replace it as often

Fantastic. Thanks mate.

I thought it was anti freeze but thought best to check.

Thanks again.

The coolant is bog standard tap water in your radiator mate, anti-freeze is an additive to stop the water from freezing overnight that you technically should mix to the ratio on the bottle, although you can probs buy it pre-mixed.

Dont confuse it with the washer bottle stuff though as that has detergent in as well.... and vice versa, or your windscreen will probably fall out and your wiper blades melt.

Sick to the t1ts of trying to find a replacement car now, any that are less than 120k miles are yonks away or way more than the insurance gave me for mine. Been royally ripped here & the bump was in no way my fault so I shouldn't be out of pocket in any way at all.

Totally reliable car that in 18 months I've only had to change a headlight bulb, got us on 3 hols in France, engine Bang On & never used any oil or water, no leaks of any kind, no bumps or scratches, immac interior, all electrics work, done 87k.

For what they gave me there are ropey looking 1's in comparison that have done 120k + and in a lot of cases a lot of +. I can get decent if I put to it but I'm not really in a position to do that at the moment, and I'd have to put a fair bit to it as well tbh.

Brassed Off tbh, really brassed off cos it's the Mrs Fiesta that needed replacing really not mine.

What do you need and what's your budget?
