2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Against Southampton, we only had Seamus and Richarlison missing. Given the compressed nature of the League this season we are going to have to cope with players being missing.

That doesn't excuse the lack of intensity we are seeing. The players coming in should be running their legs off trying to break in to the team.
Right when Iwobi came on (this part I can't recall exactly) he either gave the ball away in the oppo third or the ball got taken away by Newcastle and he literally jogged the entire way back. Less than 5 minutes after he came on. He gave almost no effort at all to try to keep them from breaking.

Ancelotti has been criticized for his training in the past, so it's no secret. He has also been criticized for his tactical stubbornness, and lack of creativity. But even if he has been criticized for it, that does not mean it is true.

Personally, I think the periods of good play have been too few under Ancelotti, but this can turn around, and the sample size is too small to assess him. However, we should be aware of this criticism, he is not above criticism, and one does not win matches on previous triumphs. Imagine today's team against Leeds, they would have been slaughtered.

Last 2 games we are back the the silva type games, it extremely disappointing and shows the one player we miss most is Richarlison the presses hassles and can run with the ball is direct and can score goals. But it shows how short we are when hes out, James we also miss but not to the extent we miss Richarlison, there’s no getting away from it we need more decent back up if we are going to stand any chance of europe, in the gossip today Isco says he wants to join Carlos, foubt it will happen but we need to keep adding these sort of player to move to the next level. We are nearer to that level, but the last 2 games show we are still a way off atm.

He doesn’t have that many other options. Iwobi, Bernard, Gomes, Sigurdsson. When everyone is fit he’s probably not in the team but he’s only being kept out by Gomes who is in torrid form himself. I’m not surprised that Isco is rumoured for that third midfield slot.

We are weak in central midfield there is no denying that. So why pick 5 central midfield players.

Gomes, Sigurdsson, Doucoure, Allan and Delph offers no pace, no creativity, no width and no energy. We were playing Newcastle and went in with basically 5 centre mids.

That is down to Carlo.

He made mistakes today but no need to overreact. We all knew that we’d have periods where our best players would be out and we’d only have a ton of deadwood to fall back on. Hopefully we have money to spend in Jan and can ship some more out

True but the point the guy made was that in Bernard’s case we did have an offer. It’s different if we’re just stuck and nobody’s coming in for our overpaid duffers, you’re right we don’t have a divine right for other clubs to take them off our hands.

In terms of who was coming in, none of us are privy to that info. Assuming Carlo made Brands aware of his feelings about Bernard well in advance of the end of the season, we had a long time to look at replacements - that’s Brands job. Instead he let Kean go on loan without replacing him and turned down a bid for Bernard who the manager is so reluctant to play it’s pointless having him. That sounds mad to me.

Do we know what the offer for Bernard was? When an agent comes out and says a deal could be done for 7M euros or whatever that's very unlikely to be a case of Bernard going to Roma and Everton getting the 7M.

Is it a solid offer from Roma or an agent looking to get a move going? What's being done about his huge contract? Is there an issue with settling it? Are Roma taking over the full amount? Is Bernard willing to forego it or part of it? Was it dependent on something on Roma's end? Did Roma have a deal with Bernard and his agent and further to that was a solid bid then actually made?

A very vague (alleged) remark from an agent doesn't amount to a lot. People make a lot of assumptions, speculate about Brands and Ancelotti not talking basics, and then further start assuming that weird choices are being made for no good reason.

Transfer speculation really isn't a basis for making judgement calls on the inner workings of a club.

You’re right - who knows whether it was a real bid or not. I was just responding to another post that mentioned us getting a bid for Bernard this summer.
