I can't think of a team in the last 10 years who had 2 equally good goalies scrapping it out for playing time...

I can only think of one team ever having two really good goalkeepers fighting it out for playing time,

Cech and Cudicini at Chelsea.....but even then it was never really a scrap, Cech was the undisputed number one when he was fit and well.

If a club is chopping and changing their goalkeeping position on a regular basis it suggests neither is particularly good.

And as others have said, no top class goalkeeper should be happy sitting on the bench week after week, Cudicini notwithstanding.

I heard Ancelotti has forced the important members of the squad to watch Star Trek to hammer home the importance of unity and cooperation. Richarlison and Digne were the most focused, DCL was inspired, Kean, Bernard and Iwobi disappointed Carlo by finding it humorous, while pure Andre Gomes had never seen a movie above 12-A rating before so was a little scared.

Right so
Yeah, it's very difficult to get the balance right between age and quality when recruiting back-up players.

City did a great job of finding Jesus, who was both good enough to push Aguero and young enough to accept a secondary role, whereas Tottenham can't seem to find the right man to support Kane.

With goalkeepers, it tends to work the other way. A young prospect will inevitably want to go out on loan for regular playing time, so you're better off finding an older hand who would rather get a handful of games at a Premier League club than drop down a level. If it's a case of feeling the need to be able to drop your no.1 goalkeeper, you probably need a new no.1 goalkeeper.

Gomes would be the Pirlo in these formationa, perhaps when Sigurdsson is fit he can go back to ACM and play the Kaka role. Ancelotti is continuing with a simple 4-4-2 for now but he's also tried 3-5-2 against Man City and other formations.

And therein lies yer problem.

And that is why back up goalies are almost invariably older ones seeing out their days, younger ones cutting their teeth or bang average goalies in their prime.

The Don cannot be happy with this transfer situation. Comes into a struggling side with an incompetent midfield and no reinforcements except some kid from Carlisle.

very poor.
