Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

I think their waiting for the decision to be made for them by the government

They don't want to make the call as it opens them up to all kinds of legalities if they end it, but if government say you are not playing for at least 3 months then the decision is out of their control and they can say it's not what we wanted but what can we do, *big null and void stamp*

Thing is Leeds could easily not get promoted this season under normal circumstances, only 7 points ahead of third, they could blow that. In fact I'm sure in the early 70s they were walking away with the first division and blew that.

I think they had that cushion last year, even later in the season that where we are up to now and they blew it.

The government aren't making the decision for exactly the same reason.

On sky news now, their talking to Gerard Lyons who's is a former economical advisor to Boris Johnson and is now senior fellow for policy exchange has given his proposal to the government on how to unlock the lockdown and his policy has been given to senior members of the government

Its a traffic light system,
Red is small shops open, low risk shops
Amber private car journeys allowed and family visits
Green is mass activity like places of worship and football matches allowed

The time line he recommends for this is
Red phase on 4th may for 3 weeks
Amber 3 weeks to see if the virus has been kept under control
Green 15th June but still cautious behaviour like wearing masks

So if this ends up the plan this season is void but the prem can plan for the new season being started on time

I cannot see this time frame happening at all

Firstly we haven't even reached peak yet and no restrictions will be lifted until at least 3 weeks after the peak.

Secondly, the amount of people I see on a day to day basis ignoring social distancing guidelines beggars belief.

For example, I work in the retail grocery area and the amount of people who insist that it takes more than 1 person to do the shopping is stupid. Every person extra is increasing the risk. Then you have shoppers in big supermarkets with hand baskets. That is not an 'essential' shop, but increasing the risk again.

As I'm driving around North Liverpool the amount of people hanging round in groups is ridiculous, then dog walkers, how many people does it take to walk the dog?

Then those exercising whether it be walking, running, cycling, whatever it is, there is simply no need to do this outside. Exercise at home.

Co-vid is not going away anytime soon, sadly it seems some people cannot stay at home and this will have repercussions for all of us, and life in this country will not be 'normal' for a significant period of time.
