Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Just to be clear, can they legally hand the title to RS and cancel the rest of the season and still not relegate or promote any teams?

Another PL meeting today that's decided nothing then.

I don't know why they call the meetings now tbh, it's clear they're just trying to wait it out as long as possible, give themselves every chance of starting again, before making a decision.

It's not happening though and having these meetings and nothing coming from it just makes them look indecisive and the clock just ticks on.

They intend to play the rest of the season but have no further details on how or when.

It feels like the league have got a real hard on for playing the games behind closed doors, regardless of when. I kinda feel like they're saying 'if it takes until September to finish this season, so be it'. The clubs themselves seem divided on this, some would happily shift focus to next season, while others are desperate to finish this season.

For me, the fairest solution, as has been hinted elsewhere, is to combine this season and the next into a one-off 76 game season. Everybody plays each other 4x and obviously, when things do get going again, each team starts on the same points as they have currently. There would be no CL/EL, so the spare midweek slots are used to ensure we get the 76 matches done.

Obviously the problem in this solution is Uefa, who aren't going to be keen on going a year without their cash cow competition plus very obvious litigation from those who have nearly won, achieved or escaped something - but that is the case for every single option including finishing whenever - UEFA''s player contact extension offer won't hold in English law and will be challenged - teams won't know who they'll even have available and could challenge any resulting finishing position in the courts.

Carragher was pretty brutal saying the time to make decisions can't just be put off forever, seems as if they know all too well the pitfalls of choosing any option and are frightened to make any move at all.

Rather like being in a chess game were every possible move will result in a losing position and inevitable check mate.

(a large part of this post I've copied from posts on TEF bluerinse and a bit from MLWEFC - but agree with both)

Nope.... If they declare Liverpool champions, they are saying all currents positions are final...so promotion, relegation and European spots are also final.....which obviously ends up in the courts, and the game becomes a mess for months...

They're waiting to see how long the pandemic lasts in the hope it's dies away and they can finish it behind closed doors...

In all likelihood, next season starts behind closed doors too....

With a further lockdown and the EFL making plans for a start on 6th June.

Now forget the public outrage over using medics, Policing, Staffing and should Footballers gets tested over frontline NHS staff, if one player or staff member contacts the virus, that shuts down the team for 14 days.

The Premier League are clearly waiting to see the EFL impact but with clubs under huge financial pressure expect to see more clubs under going wage reduction like Arsenal.

The issue Premier League have which EFL don't have is UEFA. Clubs will want guarantees over European spots and this season's comp also The FA have been very quiet regards the FA Cup also.

I honestly don’t get this behind closed doors bollox .... it’s either safe or it isn’t ...

In that case you can forget about next season as well then. Until there is a vaccine available and the vast majority of the population have been vaccinated it won't be properly safe to resume football properly. Behind closed doors is the best we are going to get for now.

Just seen on sky sports app, saying their looking at june 8th for potential return date yet they also mention players turning up in their training kit ready to limit contact and then train a safe distance apart, that's good preparation for then playing a contact sport isn't it.

It's like someone is writing these things messing about now!
