Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Its totally unrealistic and I dont see how they do it, I was just pointing out that they havent YET given up on a restart.

It looks like people are cementing deadlines in preparation for them not being able to be met over the coming weeks.

The idea of "extend indefinitely" has been completely watered down, and it looks increasingly as if every league will not risk jeopardising next season in any way. Germany started training last week, to be able to finish for the end of June. We are in a race against time. We have a maximum of 3 weeks to be able re-start or we are timed out.

This is it basically. I agree with your earlier post as well, it looks to me as if each organisation is getting their ducks in a row to demonstrate they wanted to play. The quieter things are, the more I'm convinced we cancel.

As for the money back, I think you are correct. Getting money back Sky have already paid will be very difficult for them. And if that was their intention, they will likely also void payments for football played outside of the calendar. I mean it's some bizarre thinking to think in option one Sky are going to take unprecedented legal action, but in another scenario the same organisation are just going to let breaches of contract just slide.

The logical position is, you lose the money for lost games. Very quickly, we are going to get to a point that we either save the next 9-10 games, or we try to save an entire season. Most of the warnings are currently about losing 9-10 games. It will be awful, but the game might survive. If you write off an entire season though, I don't think football can make it through. Such a position would be football voting itself out of existence. The price is much too high to complete a season months after it ended.
Surely it will depend on the terms and conditions of the contract? I would be surprised if an outfit like Sky didn't have it covered. However, as stated above, it depends on how Sky view their future relationship with football. There will be a compromise settlement.

Yes all fair. It's not unfair to assume that Sky may seek damages for a change in contract. What doesnt have credibility though is to assume this approach wouldn't be consistently applied.

French league aiming to start next season in August, no restart of this season

But still nothing definite about finishing the current season.
Like England disputes about TV and other sponsorship.

Yep. You can imagine that thete would be a stupid option of well lets play most games behind closed doors for the season and just broadcast them (incuding Saturday at 3pm) for viewers but that would be worse than no football.

I honestly think unless they can come up with a vaccine soon (there is talk of at least 9 months) then quite a few clubs in the PL and so many more lower down will cease to exist.

Big changes coming

If we played Sigurdsson and he had coronavirus and was on the verge of needing intensive care to cope with it, I actually doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between him then and him normally.
He'd be lying on his front and not his back.

Sky have had their viewers for the games already played, viewers watching highlights and build up shows. They’ve had the advertising money associated with all this etc.

When it gets voided and the PL will be being very careful how they announce this news, there’s no chance Sky will be able to claim all their money back as if the games were never happened.

If that’s the case then I and every Sky subscriber will also be entitled to a refund from Sky for all the money we paid to watch games that are now classed as though they never happened.

That’s not to even mention the PL sponsors or advertisers on Sky who will all then have claims.

It does none of them any good to cause trouble for themselves in the long run. It’s a sad incident, one of them things that unfortunately you can’t plan for but they all know what side they’re bread is buttered on.

Come this Autumn, they’ll all be happy to kick off and do it all again. Sky are literally nothing without the premier league.

Define long long long time?

I don't think there will be a 20/21 season. I don't think there will be much of anything until the vaccine is vetted.

And I agree, you are probably looking at least 6 months, IMO.

Vaccine or herd immunity wont be reached in that timeframe, but hopefully testing will "help" bridge the gap, but thats a long way away.
