Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Behind closed doors games, cannot and will not work. Even if a miracle occurs and all the fans chose to do the right thing and stay away (a laughable suggestion really, that we all know will never happen) you'd still have the best part of a hundred people inside the ground. Think about it, both first teams and sqaud, both management teams, ref teams, camera crews, commentary teams, ball boys, medical professionals (who will have far more pressing matters to deal with).

That's a lot of people all breaking social distancing rules just for one single game of football and we'd have to do this hundreds of times to finish all the divisions. Plus if the league has to be completed the teams like Newcastle will quite rightly demand that the cup also be finished! Its a recipe for disaster and frankly I wish nothing but the worst luck on the selfish individuals who are seriously pushing for this.

Giving City a huge advantage over the rest.

Premier league clubs will receive millions of pounds in advanced payments related to league positioning and television fees in an effort to ease their cash - flow problems.

The 20 clubs agreed to the funding to cope with the lack of income because of the coronavirus crisis, with payments expected to be in the region of £20m.

The partial release of "merit payments" is prize money that clubs would have received, while "facility fees" relate to how many matches each club had shown on live TV matches.

You are 100% right, and there's another point to consider - imagine if they tried to restart the season, and after a few games some players were to fall victim to the virus? It simply doesn't bear thinking about.

Especially when you consider that if a Big Red player caught it, particularly a key player, they’d just keep quiet about it and probably continue playing them.

I personally don't think they have any intention of jeopardising next season and right now they're just saying all the right things so when it does get voided they can say they tried everything and gave it every chance they could.

I reckon some clubs would actually make it impossible to play now even if they wanted to and expect it'll be pulled in the next 3 weeks.

There is no way they'll risk losing next season and they'll be desperate to get the season ticket money in, the transfer wheels moving, new kits out and on sale etc.

It's done and everyone in the PL knows it.

As far as I know they have to finish this season come what may or they are in debt to sky/BT for hundreds of millions. That's their priority

It’ll be a pro rata payment for the games missed that they’ll have to pay back. Which will be a small % and they’ll probably settle on some extra games next year and a few other perks instead.

They won’t have to pay the full amount back regardless of how many times Liverpool fans claim they will.

Isnt this sport a big deal in Ireland too? Something they take serious.
Might be hurling you're thinking of. The championships for both big GAA sports (gaelic football is the other) run mid May to early September, but could be run off in maybe 2 months if needed as they are traditionally a knockout format that has been extended over the last 20 years. They are a huge thing, but could well be cancelled, but they can kick the decision down the road for another 10 weeks maybe.

The League (which is a secondary competition run February to April) was basically just abondoned.

From the corridors of doom...
To the passage of Success...

Let's hope we all find a gateway to the future...

If we played Sigurdsson and he had coronavirus and was on the verge of needing intensive care to cope with it, I actually doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between him then and him normally.

So basically LMA advocating NHS workers and patients get tested first.
Then the second most important people on the planet - footballers....
Words fail me.
It certainly puts unimportant groups like shop workers, carers, the elderly, students, postmen, deliverly people, the police, schoolchildren etc in their place.
