Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Looking at the way this is going and the very real possibilities of a second wave, I think there is a good chance that we may struggle to see a complete 20-21 season either.

If two seasons are disrupted then it may be the end to football as we know it now.

I honestly cannot see a 2020/21 season happening as things stand right now.

They keep saying a second wave in the autumn and early winter is a real possibility so given that possibility one cannot imagine large crowds of 30,000 and higher congregating in the enclosed environs of a football stadium being allowed in the late summer.

Yep. You can imagine that thete would be a stupid option of well lets play most games behind closed doors for the season and just broadcast them (incuding Saturday at 3pm) for viewers but that would be worse than no football.

I honestly think unless they can come up with a vaccine soon (there is talk of at least 9 months) then quite a few clubs in the PL and so many more lower down will cease to exist.

It’s weird how we’re possibly going to jeopardise an entire season just to finish off the last 9 games of this one.

It makes sense if realistically they don't think they can finish next season. So at least only one remains unfinished by playing the shorter of the two, even if that means playing it in September/October.

Let's hope everything calms down by the summer taking away the fear that they could start but never finish next season.

Hmm dunno, can’t see why next season wouldn’t be finished.

If it didn't kick off until like January then it'd be a write off.

Even then though, the solution is to void this season anyway and have no season next year.

It's basically like a war. Imagine if you resumed the league after WW2 with the standings as they were before the war but with every squad having 80% different players. Would be a farce.

If they're deffo trying to cram the end of this season in this Summer we could deffo start next season in August and scrap what's left of this one.

I personally don't think they have any intention of jeopardising next season and right now they're just saying all the right things so when it does get voided they can say they tried everything and gave it every chance they could.

I reckon some clubs would actually make it impossible to play now even if they wanted to and expect it'll be pulled in the next 3 weeks.

There is no way they'll risk losing next season and they'll be desperate to get the season ticket money in, the transfer wheels moving, new kits out and on sale etc.

It's done and everyone in the PL knows it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Behind closed doors games, cannot and will not work. Even if a miracle occurs and all the fans chose to do the right thing and stay away (a laughable suggestion really, that we all know will never happen) you'd still have the best part of a hundred people inside the ground. Think about it, both first teams and sqaud, both management teams, ref teams, camera crews, commentary teams, ball boys, medical professionals (who will have far more pressing matters to deal with).

That's a lot of people all breaking social distancing rules just for one single game of football and we'd have to do this hundreds of times to finish all the divisions. Plus if the league has to be completed the teams like Newcastle will quite rightly demand that the cup also be finished! Its a recipe for disaster and frankly I wish nothing but the worst luck on the selfish individuals who are seriously pushing for this.
