Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Just couldn't care less. The desperation of them to finish this season all revolves around one thing: money. The lot of them are pigs at the trough.

The last few weeks have really put in the spotlight how much the game has lost touch with reality. Even this season in general with the disastrous introduction of VAR.

Footballers are paid through PAYE so most will be taxed at 40%. Its the ones with large portion of image rights who dodge a chunk of tax as its paid at 19% corporation tax through an IRC.

I think footnallers are trying to point out if they take a 30% pay cut on that PAYE then obviously that a massive amount of revenue the government loses. Apparently a lot of them feel that this would be helping the clubs owners more than the NHS which makes sense to me.

Yet when it starts again eventually, all this will be forgotten and fans will turn up in their droves again like fickle bell ends.

sad but true.

They'll probably end up playing the games behind closed doors anyway. I'm hooked on the game and I'll never walk away completely. Year by year I care a little bit less though.

I'm not bothered by them taking a wage cut. What they do with the obscene amounts of money they earn is up to them, providing as you say they pay their taxes fairly.

Do you actually believe players care about where tax goes

Oh aye, them pushing the narrative that by taking their full wage they’re doing the country and the NHS a great service is completely altruistic and not in the slightest bit shallow, utterly disingenuous and lower than a rattle snakes arse.

ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL.

‘PL pay cut will harm the NHS’. That is the most disingenuous, cynical excuse I’ve ever heard.

Even with the astronomical wages PL players are paid, the tax revenue that goes to the NHS off the back of it is an absolute drop in the ocean compared to gargantuan government departmental spending. A few months of a 30% reduction to their wages wouldn’t impact in the slightest.

I will not be contributing any money towards Premier League football ever again. Sorry Everton and Sky. You can jog on.

Current scenario:
Average football wage is £60,000 a week
40% tax rate means £24,000 to Goverment
20% of tax goes to NHS means £4,800

Proposed scenario:
£60,000 a week
30% pay cut
£42,000 a week
40% tax rate means £16,000 to Government
20% of tax goes to NHS means £3,360
A loss of £640 to NHS

£18,000 saved in pay cut
£640 to NHS
At least £17,560 to workers, lower leagues and charities

£17,000 multiplied by 20 Premier League teams multiplied by 25 first team squad is £8.8m a week

Workers are paid. NHS don't lose original contribution and in fact should get more money if allocated correctly. Football League hopefully supported. Charities benefit.

What are the PFA not telling players?

Note: I know this means other services (welfare, pensions etc) miss out, so it is not clear cut, but shows something can be done.

Im not saying I believe they are trying tp gain the moral high ground, im saying what the statement says makes sense.

If players take a pay cut, the owners save money and less tax is paid. Liverpool have just furloughed all their non paying staff so if their players take a 30% cut, who gains?
No the furloughed staff as they are not being paid bt the club, not the Government as the taxes have decreased. The only people who benwfit from a wage reduction is owners.

Now the players may need to take a reduction to offset losses from match day revenue or tv rights etc but the 30% reduction has nothing to do with helping the NHS make more money.

They would be better making a statement stating that they want the full pay but will donate X amount of money per month across the PL. Thats divided between money to NHS and staff of lower league clubs

You have just made the point here, so how would a reduction in wages further help that? You think the dildo bros or John Henry/Glazers etc give a crap about the NHS. Would you trust them to do the right thing with the money they save on a 30% reduction of players wages? I certainly wouldnt.

The only way to do this and keep transparancy is for players to donate 30% or a portion of Net wages to NHS directly or to split it between NHS, lower league staff, charities etc.

Yep. Unfortunately, this is why football has gone the way it has. Fans have enabled the behaviour.

Would be great if fans boycotted the first games back in protest (excluding any that might take place behind closed doors), but that's never going to happen. At the very least, it would be good if all fans collectively boo the teams as they come out.
