Keneda your hilarious.

By calling strengths and weaknesses 'limited' you really are selling one of the best players in the game short.

Where's Lao when we need him.

I guess im missing this all action midfielder who scores, assists, defends, tracks back, opens defences up with killer through balls etc that everyone sees him as....

Or stand by the fact hes a great support striker and not a midfielder

Your talking about maybe 3 or 4 midfielders in the world there.

Noone here sees him as the complete midfielder, he is just an absolute weapon.

Theres no need to be facetious, he's the best midfielder we have, and asked to play in the support striking role, why the hell should he have to be defending deep when it's not his job??

You want him to be playing killer through balls to himself? To be tracking back when as soon as we get it we are hoofing it up to him?

Come on.

No, but you missed the point.

He does about as much midfield work as tevez, rooney or drogba...would you classify them as midfielders?

His supposed position is attackin midfield. The way we play nowdays imo generally needs a van der vaart type player or even pienaar for us to play that attackin midfield role as they take huge midfield responsibilities and playmake further up the field. Cahill doesnt do that.

Hence why hes been for years a support striker as hes close to the main striker than any midfield player ive seen, and also does less in midfield than a normal midfielder.

My view is...you play him with the yak as thats his best partner or you play him up top on his own as a striker.

If you want an attackin midfielder who links and pulls strings in midfield and further forward, its not him.

Thats not bashin him, thats just pointin out that hes not a midfielder.

Cahill is now a striker his midfield days are over.
He could be one of the best strikers in the prem tuck rodwell in behind him and happy days

disagree, i think he's made the position just behind the strikers his own. he still tracks back much more often then a normal striker, and is usually in the buildup for attacks rather than at the very front. most of his goals have come from him running on to crosses coming in from the corner, he needs to be a step behind the strikers to be most effective.

he's definitely not a normal attacking midfielder, but it would be a mistake to call him a striker

in all fairness, i think we've seen more of him creating plays with the ball at his feet this year then in most recently. any time we've played him as a striker he's been ineffective. we really are splitting hairs here though, he plays just behind the strikers and just in front of the midfield, in the undefined cahill position, lets just leave it at that.

People really need to start watch matches when they are watching it, Cahill is no longer working defensively as much as he did in the past (at least not yesterday) and he is playing as a pure striker, aften being positioned higher on the pitch than Saha. Saying that he's playing in "Old Cahill's position" or that we are playing 4-5-1 is like saying Rodwell is playing as defensive midfielder or Coleman as a right back. In the past it was true, it's no longer (maybe temporary) though.

I also would like to see him playing as a lone striker (if Moyes is not interested in playing Yak), with Rodwell behind him, as he is the most direct central attacking midfielder we have and I have a feeling his movement and energy would cause opposite's sides big problems.

Everyone's right to some extent. But there's one missing element here, and that's quality team mates. Any attacking midfielder or striker or goalkeeper is only as good as the other 10 people on the pitch with him.

I can NOW appreciate Wayne Rooney's beef with Man U when he nearly walked, due to, as he explained, lack of ambition. Supposedly. There was a point there.

No one wins a game by himself. I loved the way Tim explained his ability to head the balls, he said I practice a lot. But he also especially mentioned the quality passes he gets from Baines. To score a goal, the passing... the assist... has got to be there.

This is what everyone in this forum has been clamouring for. More quality players!!! More, more, more.

Having said that, I also know that when the chips are down you want Tiny Tim on your side. It happens a lot when the Socceroos play. We'd be down 1-0 for 88 mins, then then "Wham," there's a Cahill goal to even things up for us.

I have sometimes wondered if Tiny Tim can show more prowess if he were an Arsenal, Man city or Man U player. Not that I want him to move. I'm just wondering, would he be scoring more goals for instance? But that's another thread again.

It's 6am Sydney time --- sorry for the carrying on.:P

Okay Matt Damon.

I'm saying he IS a midfielder.

Nerr.

I don't care one iota if Tim's a midfielder or a striker. As long as he scores... who cares? We can invent a title for him, strifielder. the only one of it's kind.

All I truly, truly care about is that he's so sexxxyyyy cuuuute. :)

Tim Cahill sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled Footy ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Timmy Head Butted the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

Tim Cahill is getting goals when he is supporting the striker, but it's only because he bloody well has to. Also don't take anything away from the sheer quality that is Leighton Baines.

Not really on topic but i thought Beckford did superbly well last night to make the chance he missed in the final minutes, i havent seen an Everton striker do that in years.

Right down the throat, in between to centre half, get your nose in front and get a shot away on goal - we've been lacking that directness since AJ left to be honest., teams dont expect it of us.
