If we take off our blue tinted glasses for a moment we can see that this team is nowhere near good enough. Out of the back 4 I would keep Williams and possibly Coleman at a push (though he is not as good as people make out and he is brainless). Midfield Gana, Barry for maybe a last season and I think Barkley will eventually come good. Del and Kev are to inconsistent to be useful for a season. Lukaku but of course keeping hold of him is another thing. A lot of work to be done on this bunch and Koeman has a lot of work to do in the transfer market. We are not fluent, mainly because we receive the ball and have to think what to do with it rather than knowing where our players already are, we are too predictable in our play. We now need a midfield maestro to dictate our play and play killer balls and we need defenders that can defend first and foremost. Quick thinking players is a must. Going to cost a fortune and will take a few years to do. We have to be patient because these players just don't cut it.

Truth is there won't be any turnaround until they manage to spend that transfer war-chest.

We saw no serious investment in the two years after we signed Lukaku and then had the underwhelming window this year. In the meantime this much heralded squad has just got a few years older and then it seems all of a sudden the bulk of them either are finished at this level and/or simply not good enough.

My biggest concern is that this is the same squad of players whom I was embarrassed and ashamed by when they downed tools in the March-May period. The attitude and lack of effort in that time was as bad as anything I have ever seen as a blue.

We got a bounce to begin with under RK but the idea that this group of players collectively have the ability, motivation, and determination to succeed is very far-fetched.

We need wholesale change and I suspect Koeman has known that since week one.

Koeman to Sky:

Very disappointed, because at least one point today, we were the better team by far.

We put in the quality in the second half and you expect to win or at the least not to lose, sometimes football is unfair. It is hard to take.

We started well, we had some good openings in the box but also in the second-half we had enough chances and shots, but only one goal, and the productivity of Burnley up front is a good example.

But that does not happen every weekend.

We need to work harder, we need to improve. Even when we were behind we played well and one more goal – we win the game.

Which is it mate, we have to think where they are or were too predictable?

Ran into a few of his own players and fell over 3-4 times and should have cleared the ball for their goal
Yeah that too, but was about the only player on the pitch creating anything worthwhile. I will forgive him for what you have quoted based on what I have said there.

Koeman to BBC:

The feeling is that we should win, but it did not happen. We started well but dropped back and then the goal was unlucky.

But we had a good reaction, and had some good chances in the second half. It's hard to take but sometimes football is unfair – they had one shot and we did not deserve to lose. We did many good things but the result is hard to take.

You can always do things better, but it's difficult against a side with good defensive organisation. We scored though and then you expect at least one point. I don't say that we need to win because you have to deserve to score, but we have come back with no points.

It's one of those days where you can't believe you lost the game, but it's football.

Fine game by Gana; I assumed he was injured as he had gone down earlier.

But Barkley gets my goat. He just never attacks the area and rather stands outside it hoping to shoot.

Miralles slow and marginal. Jags shocking. He is really low on confidence and should not have started.

As for the first goal, now I know why the keeper was in the reserves so long at Fulham.

Burnley were there for the taking but EFC are just not good enough.

Not my mentality. The players don't get it. They don't get what we expect. They think this is fine because we drew at city.

Eventually we need to start from scratch and turf these out. Why not do it now rather than drift for another 3 seasons.

You expect us to win every game and sign 10 players per-window though?

But we didn't score another goal and we did lose

I know people are saying Heaton had a good game but I don't think he was really tested tbh
