Against arguably the worst side in the league aside from Sunderland, I expected a lot more from our attackers today. It's nowhere near enough for Barkley to "keep things ticking over" as I read here today, and Mirallas stunk the place out until he was inevitably brought off. It's a good job Bolasie put that goal in otherwise the miss would've capped off a(nother) disgraceful showing for us. Thankfully he had a good second half, which leaves me scratching my head as to why he can't perform like that more often. It goes without saying, then, when you have one striker and your attacking midfielders aren't on form, it's going to be incredibly difficult for said striker to have an impact on the game. Lukaku's hold-up play was impressive today, but he was feeding on absolute scraps and it took a last-minute nick by the defender to stop him slotting home a tap-in in the second half.
As most people are saying, it all boils down to our quite frankly disgraceful transfer window. I'm not arsed about Sissoko, infact I'd have been as gutted as I was with us signing Bolasie if he'd have joined, but we are so short of quality it's scary. No real competition for Barry, Barkley, Coleman, Baines, Stekelenberg, Lukaku... which means you have to keep poorly-performing players in the side (Coleman, Barkley), especially if the manager, as it seems, doesn't trust the younger players.
