Police clearly getting out of hand too. All very messy.
We often complain in this country of the lack of police powers or presence but the moment they do try and enforce something such as in this case dispersing people after 3 days of violence, damage, arson etc people are happy to flip the coin and say the shouldn’t be doing this also...

Well we were talking about dogs weren't we. I said I believe the police were justified in using dogs against the rioters who were using extreme violence against them.

You brought up the journalist which is a different matter

The conversation was about police tactics. In general before that. They didn’t just use dogs against the rioters. They used the dogs against everyone there. Dogs aren’t targeted.

No they are not.
Protests are not banned under lockdown restrictions.

The law in fact requires public authorities, including the police to facilitate the right to protest.

The police have routinely accepted this, yet continue to enforce a policy that is an effective blanket ban.

The Covid Regulations provide exemptions for mass gatherings (obviously) and also the individual right to be outside with 'reasonable excuse' which the right to protest covers.

Yes, but was punching her the right way to go about things?
It looked like a shield in the face to me but anyway, it looked like the police were trying to restore some order to that area and she was in the way and not moving, you’ve got to ask yourself what did she really think would happen?

Complaining about lack of police powers is a stupid thing. It’s used by bad faith politicians and media personalities as it’s an easy but silly vote winner

I think it’s reasonable to expect the police to deal with these things a lot better than they do.

As it is to expect the protesters to behave a lot better than they do.

We can say they shouldn’t be there during a pandemic but when the city of liverpool has a river of lights festival bringing hundreds of people to congregate each night, let the people protest.

I’m not complaining

Which is also wrong, how has that even been allowed to happen?

Can you imagine the uproar had that officer just thrown the woman to the ground and cuffed her

"DAT DER MAN THROWING A LITTLE WOMAN TO DER GROUND DISGRACE DAT PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY DAT IZ!"

The question is 'is it reasonable force'? And more broadly, why was a protest peaceful, until the police kettled it and ordered to disperse, lawful until around 10pm then suddenly not.

It definitely wasn’t peaceful, they stormed a police station and set cars on fire. The police don’t know who she is, what her intentions are, she wasn’t moving so can only have herself to blame.
