I’m not sure it could be considered a bill in the normal sense of the word. Just a list of loosely connected things that appeal to Mail & Torygraph readers.

Most of it was (the statues nonsense especially), but there were one or two things in there that are really out of order.

Wondered why the helicopters have been flying over ours all night, thought they must be out looking for someone.

Plus i just realised i was sat on the side of the harbour having a beer this afternoon next to several people with political signs on sticks. However this being Bristol i really didn't think anything of it.

Hope the injured police are ok. I've said my piece before really, protesting during a pandemic is social terrorism and a selfish act of self importance which flies in the face of the sacrifices we as a people are still having to make every day.

How do people not realise that saying “wait until after the pandemic to protest” is exactly the reason why these protests unfortunately need to go ahead now. The government are forcing the hand of the population into demonstrating. Admittedly, you don’t need to tip over police vans and attack officers to make the point, but you can’t just not protest things which the government tries to usher in using the pandemic as a defence shield. It is nefarious and these measures are not for the good of society. If protests are delayed until after the bill has passed because of the pandemic then it becomes a bit too late to take a stand.

Obviously mass gatherings during a pandemic are idiotic, though it has to be said this government knows this and is using it to its advantage.

If anyone thinks that the Torys are going to just reverse this ruling when the pandemic is over, clearly isn't paying attention.
Completely understand the outrage over these new powers, don't think mass gatherings during a pandemic are wise either.

Jesus, we're in a bad state aren't we?

"if we keep them silent,
then they'll become violent
and that's how you criminalise change"

Spot on.

This bill does not say anything about these measures being in place “during a pandemic”. This is a bill that will almost criminalise peaceful protest at all times. And people wonder what that will lead to? Riots that will make the scenes in Bristol look like child’s play.

If there was an opposition worth talking about perhaps it wouldn’t get this far.

Round them up, inject them with covid and refuse medical help.

Absolute [Poor language removed] stains of society
You could be head of your own prison if you like. Oh dear how sad.... Heil Mein fuhrer!
The government want scenes like this so further draconian laws are introduced.
Wait until they try and send commissioners to try and govern Liverpool.
Only the start, sadly.

So what has made the government decide to bring these in, like now, a particular protest?
Something must of been the final straw, or rather something has handed the government the excuse they needed to justify this, if it was the right wing anti lockdown pricks they have really made things difficult for people with a legitimate reason to protest.

So much for a United Kingdom and bringing it together, cant say I'm surprised at all. Suspect this will be just the hors d'oeuvre as people wake up push back on a authoritarian government.
