Houghton’s team had great aggression and positional basics in midfield today. Many Everton players were below par today, but there was also a seeming lack of a proper attacking game plan. Weird lack of action from Silva up until the goal.

It seemed that he didn’t try to win the game when they came out strong in the second half.
It annoys the hell out of me that. Gana is perfect at what he does, breakup play and simple pass to creative player, however, with three centre backs he becomes one of those creative players and he does not have that skill set for that.

Should probably have him in there as 1 of the 3. He couldn’t do any worse even if he is 4 foot tall.

I don’t mind if Silva is still trying to figure some of these players out and work formations etc, the thing that annoyed me most was how long it took to change personnel/formation - as in, not until we were behind.

They were two of our best players last season, but as soon as we put some better ones around them they turn to rubbish. We just can’t build a team. Every single manager who comes here seems to just have the same problems over and over again.
Yes mate, it’s depressingly repetitive isn’t it. It appears that the moment players put on an Everton shirt, they become imbued with a losing mentality...annoys the hell out of me.
I guess they’re all on salaries whereby it doesn’t really matter to them

Ah fatigue excuses already, we play once a week, not like other teams playing twice every week. Such bull.

Everton defender Michael Keane on whether Brighton's goal offside?

"At the time a lot of the lads were not sure who the ball came off but I was right there, it came off our player, so it was not offside, he was lucky it happened to fall to him, unlucky for us.

"We didn’t start as we wanted to, they put pressure on us and got the goal. We didn’t create clear cut chances.

"They started brightly, we grew into the game, I had a chance with my head. We’ve got to take them. If we go 1-0 up, we can control the game. We had a win against Burnley and wanted to build on that.

"Maybe the loss was down to fatigue, but also they have got a good defence, solid, hard to break down. So do we so there were never going to be too many goals. Maybe fatigue played a part, on our day we could cause them problems.

"We need to put things right, ensure we start the year with a win and get up the table back to where we belong.

Mentally fragile team and manager..
2018 quite possibly the worst most disparing calendar year I have witnessed as an Evertonian - and I remember Gordon Lee's demise, Mike walker and Walter Smith tenures.
Despairing is the word you were looking for. Do not despair, good times lie ahead, maybe.

Not 100% sure of the ever changing offside rule but as the ball was deflected back by Gomes to the striker who was in an offside position should it not have been disallowed?

That was my understanding, I’m probably wrong. I thought deflections didn’t constitute what was required, I also thought it had to be a positive pass or movement leading to the ball being played back.

Golly gosh, the adjectives on here "rotten", cowardly" , "shocking", shambles", "disinterested". "Worse year ever" ? (Are you 5 years old? Must be if this was your worse year ever). Didn't see that being said here after Burnley unless I was not observant enough. This forum might be decimated if some of you online wallahs top yourselves. Happy New Year to one and all and see you (or some of you) at the next home game.

It was a shocking second half and for me the worst this season. Major work needed to eradicate this sort of performance. Watched Football Focus earlier, and the word was "consistency". We are consistent. We are consistently inconsistent.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Blah blah same old crap year in year out.

Not defending the players cos I didnt see the game, but the Xmas/New Year schedules for us and Spurs were flagged up a while ago as the two with the fewest rest days between games.

If Everton was a boxer we are literally the journeyman, the nothing . Just a number for the winners.

I thought this actually. We resemble a clapped-out late 30s heavyweight that was once briefly successful but can no longer cut it. The sort that fights in town halls on a weeknight, against younger and fitter opponents, and other makeweights, taking more punishment than they should because they need the money. Making up the undercard as it were.

Didn't take our chances. Didn't need the changes.

Gueye should never be brought into a team who scored 5. There's a reason we scored goals without him. Another diabolical game in posession.

We are a mid table team.
