IMO that would hammer home an unwanted message: 'everything is the same'.

Because that's what retaining those two would do. They are the most senior players and they'll offer hope to those wanting to stay on - but who we want out of the door - that they can hang on.

Agreed, and I have a signed Jags and Baines kit behind me in my office. At least 1 HAS TO GO. I think Baines is more likely to stay as a second choice LB. But Jags is past it and he is not a good captain, you can’t have him lingering about. Just can’t.

It's not personal. It's just business. They need to be on the way out.

Baines as a deputy LB I'd accept. We need a new starting LB though, that's for sure. I have a felling LB will be an area of highest priority. A CB also. And we need a dominant target man and box-to-box CM.

Agree 100%. Baines is deputy for another year. Antonee Robinson out on loan 1 more year. Then Baines testimonial and off to MLS

Agreed, having a former captain still in the squad especially if someone is named a new permanent captain is a recipe for disaster.

Like you said nothing personal. But everyone has an expiration date. You can’t be too sentimental with players.
