Blue Union Board Angst

I see Spurs as our benchmark, has there been anything in their approach (other than the London advantage) that we could look at and replicate?

They have built slowly and steadily and have been able to attract players of the calibre of Lloris, Vertonghen, and Eriksen, to name but a few.

There has been too much of a hang-up on "marquee" signings and the resultant dependency on attracting them (and sense of failure when we can't).

I am a bit surprised that we haven't made use of the continental European and South American markets more. There will still be a premium for English buying clubs but I find it hard to fathom that 4-5 players could not have been identified and signed. We clearly offered enough of a good proposition to tempt Lukaku to join permanently 2 years ago, admittedly that was off the back of 5th place finish, but league placings over an individual season is not the be all and end all.

The failure, if there has been one this summer, is that we have not created and built momentum by doing business earlier, and leaving the squad threadbare in some areas on the eve of kick-off.
They tend to buy early in the window and sell late. We tend to do everything at the end.

Before the last two season widely accepted to be the fault of the manager what were our league position finishes? Between 5th and 8th.

Witsel we weren't able to convince. A few others I think we just haven't been willing to pay the money.
since 1995/96 season we have averaged a finish of 9.8 out of 20. Since moyes' first full season in 2003 we averaged a finish of 7.9. Even if you take out martinez' 11th place finishes, we averaged a 7.3 finish. Hardly indicates high potential to prospective players, throw in no cup wins either

Even in the BU glory days of getting Bobby out there was only a handful of them and most our fan base were probably in agreement. Now we are in our best position for a couple of decades, real desire shown to get a manager from a rival, movement on the stadium front and still a couple of weeks left to do transfer business I can only think they are going to make a complete joke of themselves here.

I'm not arguing that we're not an attractive option to players, just that Koeman and company have a job to do in convincing transfer targets that we'll be challenging at the top soon. I think signing good, although not exciting players, is still a step in the right direction. Get back in Europa, maybe win a cup and build a winning mentality

Ancient history in terms of the premiership. In the last 10 year until the last 2 seasons we have finished between 5th and 8th. Only finishing 8th once and 5th 3 times. Basically good enough for Europa League most seasons.

Plus the squad as it stood at the start of the window had a lot of potential.

so around 7th as I indicated. CL level players want to join CL teams, not winners of the 7th placed trophy. Rom joined permanently because he thought we were going to push on from 5th and enter CL, Koeman/Walsh have to convince targets we will get there. They'll have a hard job of it this summer but if we can get ourselves back into Europa then I think it will aid the process

because he can get loads of money while also playing in CL...probably why he went to Zenit in the first place
weve reportedly offered him substantially more though haven't we? The whole cash grabbing mercenary thing doesn't seem to be working in our favour on the whole when trying the bigger name targets like it did for city and Chelsea in their new money days. Maybe that's not actually s bad thing. If we can udentify good players who actually want to be here and build old school I'd be happy with thst

They are trying to remain relevant bless them.

Best news in years.

Last night I was thinking about it and I remembered printing out a pixelated picture of the kings dock stadium and showing it to everyone in school well chuffed.

That was an age ago and nothing has still happened, until yesterday.

It's all good

Blue Union have concern...

Like you said last night, I get that perhaps there's a few questions that require clarification, but overall, can't they just be happy we're on the way to a new docklands ground near the city?

Think of the soon to be local pubs. Think of the restaurants in walking distance. My belly is pleased.

Their stance is very much 'whatever it is I'm against it' and that's not particularly healthy (I am very much for BM by the way).

I have a concern that they are a pointless organisation who need to feel involved in everything

I disagree with this new moan but generally I was onside in the dark days before Moshiri came. Something had to be done at that time and low and behold not long after we get investment. They are passionate blues who want to act rather than sit on there hands doing nothing and keep the board on there toes. I don't agree with everything they do but I admire them for having a go.

I felt this was a great chance for them to act as a supportive pillar.

Creating campaigns that promote the stadium move and quashing any opposition that potentially Liverpool fans would try and create.

What a shame, they won't recover from this is they oppose it.
