We haven't played bad at all imo. Some nice passing and some good movement, unfortunately most moves broke up when the ball got in and around Kone. Heads dropped a bit after the goal but impressed with Cleverly's energy. Him and McCarthy are the legs for Barry in this system.

I can eventually envisage a dead-weight Barry's movement being orchestrated by a system of pulleys, as operated by these two - such is Martinez's insistence that he start every game....

Seriously, though, Mad Baz looks good again here... I just think if it comes down to it, Cleverly/Gibson + McCarthy is the more forwards-facing option for the 2-DM situation that we refuse to deviate from.

Our 5-yard passing is the biggest failure of this zombified tiki-takka thingy we stick to... so playing Kone and Naismith together is a doomed and boring experiment.

Got to Kone and broke down. When he actually did his job, we put a few nice moves together.

Look at every corner we've defended under Martinez - CB's defend zonally, rest man-mark. Stones' zone was clear, Osman lost his man. I'm not a fan of this approach at all, but it's how Boberto likes to play it, so yes, it wasn't Stones' fault.

Exactly my point. That's the zone they mark. Stones was nearest and only reacted by moving back in again when the ball had dropped at the feet of Gerard.
