Barry looks better too, just hope we dont overplay him and he goes to the dogs again

Barry has been barely competent. Too slow in thought and body, it's been a challenge for him just to shuffle possession along. A world away from what is required from a premier league midfielder.

We started really sharply and Barry and McCarthy were knocking it about well. Then, after half an hour, we switch off, as we did so many times last term.

Our passing was much faster and we even created a few chances. This is a decent side and we've been by far the better team.

I agree there's a lot of similarities with last season but Barry has been very good which he rarely was. Cleverly and McCarthy have also done well and Mirallas before he was injured looked really dangerous. Plus the defense has been very strong.

Add a player like Shaqiri into that team (it will be interesting if Rooney gets more than 5 mins) and we would be a decent force if our first teamers are fit.

I agree we look decent in areas, but it's individuals doing the decent stuff and generally it is all done without any fluent purpose as a team. We don't attack properly - we get into decent areas but the support play is often terrible and it breaks down.

Added to that we then get countered at average pace but look like we've been caught blind and it's four on four without much done to get in that position.

So we don't attack enough with the end threat of a goal, and we don't defend consistently. It's the same problems that caused last seasons nightmare stuff.

I don't think we play to our strengths; we're trying to Barcelona everything when we have a world class Bayern Munich type striker and a decent inside forward in Mirallas - both of whom could be crazy effective if we moved the ball forward quicker and played off an attacking mid instead of the striker.

I misread your first post, but we've still knocked it about well. Not disagreeing Kone is making things difficult for us, Lukaku up front would help us maitain attackers, therefore create more chances.
Let's hope you're right, I'm not convinced Lukaku is the man who holds up the ball for us, be we will see next week
