2025/26 Beto

His hold up play is improving and he's a decent finisher overall.
This sums him up perfectly.

We had Calvert Lewin for years improving his hold up play.
Enter Carlo Ancelloti and stops him doing it and consentrate on getting in the box.
The results were dramatic.

Beto's hold up play is shocking , thats because he isnt that type of player.
As the stats say his goals per minute are good , so play him where he is good.

Tis a game of opinions. You may rate him, I do not. If -for the sake of argument- there were ten games to go and he were available on a free, would the likes of Leeds or Forest or Spurs or Burnley or Wolves be falling over themselves to snap him up? Personally I just dont see it.

He's in a purple patch, long may it continue, he's bagging a few goals, he works hard, very likeable guy etc etc - all of which is great, I'm just saying I see zero level of quality there. For me, if anything, its an incredible testament to Moyes and the team that we are where we are after 32 games when our only striker options are Beto and Barry.

I want us to have a top class No9 banging in ~25 goals a season that every club in Europe wants to get their mits on, not picking between one substandard stiker or the other IMO. I'm pleased for Beto, I'm just nowhere near convinced he's even close to Prem quality that the teams around us who we want to surpass would give him the time of day, yet we do. In short: I don't think this club moves forward with Bet or Barry as the leading striker options.

Each and every one of those clubs would snap him up on a free without hesitation. The only bottom half centre forwards that have scored more than Beto are Richarlison, DCL, and Mateta, all of whom have only scored 1 or 2 more goals than Beto, and only Richarlison has a better minutes to goal ratio.

Nobody's claiming he's elite, but you're acting like his market value is on the floor, when his stats paint a very different picture.

I didn't say it was on the floor, I just said I don't think he's got any real quality about him. It's completely hypothetical so we'll never know, but it does make you ask the question why not a single one of those level of teams went all out to sign him in the summer. Or January. Maybe thats because his Prem career has mostly been absolutely nothing to write home about; but hey, if some fans want to get giddy because he's managed to bundle in a few goals lately to pad out his stats, have at it.

You're arguing that clubs would turn him down on a free, when his market value is at least 20 million.

With the exception of Tottenham, all of the clubs that you're mentioning are below us in the food chain and would struggle to even attract Beto.

Beto has scored the same amount of league goals as Woltemade, who cost 70 million pound last summer.

Struggle to attract Beto?!?!? Who was even in for him before we threw about £20-25m at Udinese?!?

Woltemade is a young player in a new league who has had a -so far- poor season (the EXACT same thing that fans say about Barry btw).

I dont wanna go round in circles. If you rate Beto, fair enough. It's a game of opinions. I just see a very very bog standard striker who has got the rub of the green lately (often comes with hard work TBF). Let's see how the season ends but I'd happily wager there wont be a queue of teams desperate to snap this guy up in the summer and it wouldn't surprise me one iota if the club vey much try to find buyers because I think Moyes probably knows the difference between quality strikers and a workhorse. Credit to Beto for doing the best he can, but IMO there's no world in which this guy takes EFC to the next level.

He was playing for Udinese, not Rotherham. He signed for Everton, not Chesterfield, for over 20 million quid.

I'm not arguing that he's a player to take Everton to the next level. I'm arguing that he's good enough for where Everton are right now, that he's good enough for pretty much anyone in the bottom half of the PL, and that his market value is at least 20 million pounds minimum. The only bottom half striker that I'd swap him for would be Richarlison, but I would even be wary of doing that due to Richarlison's injury history.

I agree that he's not elite, but I disagree that he's below average in Premier League terms. If we end up selling Beto this summer, there will be plenty of interest and he won't come cheap.
