2025/26 Beto

Very fair point mate. I just always think he's more likely to make stuff happen. Don't know if the stats back it up, but I always think we look like we're going to score more goals when he's on the pitch

See what you're saying mate. Beto does put himself about more than Barry, also think he makes the more intelligent runs of the two. to be fair though it's not that hard being better than Barry. 😂

I like him, I really want him to succeed but his link up play is non existent. I love the fact he gives everything and love it when he scores. But he just can't hold it up and lay it off. We need Brentfords attacking scouts

I don't know about that mate. Beto would start a game because Barry had been gash the previous games. Barry would then come in because Beto had been gash. To be honest both our strikers are a bit gash so it's a toss of a coin.
1000% correct. Would honestly be surprised if either one started a game for any other team in the league (which should tell you everything about recruitment at this club), yet somehow here we are knocking on the door of Europe..... so far.

Beto has proved himself to be the better option to Barry in my humble opinion anyway but that in no way makes me believe he is our long term number nine,I still think if we are being serious about this at last we will require two upgrades up front whatever we end up doing with the pair of them.

Don't think he's anything special but in my opinion we're a more threatening team with him on the pitch. Think centre halves always know they've been a game with him.
Yeah maybe. I don't question his work ethic or that he puts himself about, just that when it truly comes down to it, we're talking very very low level of quality. But that's been the story of EFC No9s since the day Lukaku left as well as before he ever arrived. It's why the top teams who win things dont carry passengers, but we do. All Beto can do is keep trying to bundle the ball across the line; they all count.

All he can do is bundle the ball across the line? I've seen several quality finishes from him. Today's was a decent finish, maybe not 'quality', but decent. Have you not seen them?

I think there's bigger issues in the side than Beto, but agree if there's an upgrade to be had then crack on. He's absolutely the best option we've got currently and hope he continues in this form.

I have seen his finishes. I've also seen the thousand chances he's missed. Most from not that far out. Just like the previous sub-standard No9 this club carried embraced for nine seasons. He's doing the best with the quality he has (which I maintain really isn't all that much), but would anyone honestly argue the case that he'd be starting for a ManU or Villa or Chelsea or any other club in the league let alone those who are where we want to be? Personally, I think no.

Yeah I get ya, and I don't wanna argue over splitting hairs. Neither Beto or Barry are elite (I think most reasonable people would agree with that), so not sure it makes a huge amount of difference who gets picked. Pleased for the lad he's in a purple patch at the business end of the season, and by all accounts he tries hard every day in training instead of strutting around like some entitled blert; but if we want to step up a level we need better strikers IMO.

Gotta take it in context: we've seen enough of him to know every now and then he bundles in a couple of goals, but let's not get carried away, he's a million miles from being anything special. Like the previous tinpot No9 we clung on to for almost a decade: needs a hundred chances from two yards out before bagging one.

Timing is everything and if its just another purple patch at the right time of the season, no prob; but ask yourself honestly: would any other team in the Premier League play this guy week in week out as first choice striker? I think you'd be hard pushed to find more than 1 or 2.

I think you're massively underrating him. His record this season is a goal every 180 minutes. He'd start for most, if not all, of the bottom 10 clubs imo. He's currently starting for the team occupying 7th/8th place in the league, who are chasing a place in Europe.

Your comment above reads like he's one of the crappest strikers in the league, and that we would be better off and willing to swap him with any other premier league striker. I disagree. Who are all these bottom half strikers that would supposedly be an upgrade on Beto? There should be plenty of them if he's only good enough to start for one or two of the 20 premier league teams?

Not suggesting he's a top top striker. He's alright though. His hold up play is improving and he's a decent finisher overall. Think you're making up these thousands of chances he's missed. Y'know, seeing as his goals per minute since he's been here is actually quite decent. Must be some player if he's missing loads of chances too.

Tis a game of opinions. You may rate him, I do not. If -for the sake of argument- there were ten games to go and he were available on a free, would the likes of Leeds or Forest or Spurs or Burnley or Wolves be falling over themselves to snap him up? Personally I just dont see it.

He's in a purple patch, long may it continue, he's bagging a few goals, he works hard, very likeable guy etc etc - all of which is great, I'm just saying I see zero level of quality there. For me, if anything, its an incredible testament to Moyes and the team that we are where we are after 32 games when our only striker options are Beto and Barry.

I want us to have a top class No9 banging in ~25 goals a season that every club in Europe wants to get their mits on, not picking between one substandard stiker or the other IMO. I'm pleased for Beto, I'm just nowhere near convinced he's even close to Prem quality that the teams around us who we want to surpass would give him the time of day, yet we do. In short: I don't think this club moves forward with Bet or Barry as the leading striker options.

Oh aye, would never say he was elite. We don't have many elite players to be honest. But he should be starting every game between now and the end of the season for me and I'm delighted he's in such good form.
