2024/25 Beto

I thought the second one was poor aswell personally, he just never really got himself in a position to do anything other than what he did, he didn't create any sort of angle so it was fairly obvious he was just going to hit it straight and it was literally straight at the keeper. Like you say though, it happens. People miss chances, it's part of the game, it's all about the split between the chances you miss and the ones you score, and he's doing alright on that front recently.
It's been a few hours but I felt for the second he took the ball brilliantly and did pretty much what he has done with his other goals so far and the keeper just went the right way.

As you say, he is getting chances, that's the most important thing.

Didn't DCL score before getting injured last time out?

I get the justified criticism DCL's received but Moyes will 100% get more out of him than Dyche ever did as we clearly play to striker's strengths and he'll also go on scoring runs. However, on merit, Beto should be starting even if DCL was fit, he's just proper in form currently.

Truth is we don't know if both won't go cold for months, which is what the problem is. They're both prone to inconsistencies or dry spells, where if you miss 1 your head goes; Beto seems to be better at having the "miss one, go again" mentality at least, so the mentality is there, the skill sort of backs it up, which is great to see.
This is spot on.

The thing for Beto and Dom was that Dyches Jurassic FC and Moyes Everton FC are essentially two different teams. Beto has discussed the change under Moyes and how it has improved him and the teams attacking play, also the culture and atmosphere (players buying in). Beto has gone from wanting out to enjoying his football.

Beto, Dom or any forward under the above would be experiencing the same. Thankfully Dyche went before Beto forced the issue. Sadly we might not get the same opportunoty to see if Moyes can get the same out of Dom.

A coach should be able to take him to one side and tell him: When clean through, don't take it too close to the 'keeper. If he comes out, a simple chip over his head and you score; if he stays back, pick a corner of the goal and absolutely mallet it in.

Just watched the highlights, think he made a meal of the first one. The other two I don't think he did much wrong. Sometimes the keeper just gets it right. Hopefully he keeps his confidence because he's doing really well.
Agreed, I keep reading he badly messed up all 3. On another day, he gets the 2nd and possibly 3rd. Pickford makes those types of saves and we lavish him with praise. Sometimes, the other teams players can do things right and it's not just our players doing things wrong.

He’s a good back up striker, he’s done fantastic since he’s came in and I’m obviously made up for him and us,
I’d also keep him ahead of DCL,
However the goals he’s scored he should do and the ones he missed last night were a worry about if he’s got time to think,
We need a striker who’s hopefully going to score 10/15 even 20 goals a season.
But in the meantime he’s a handful because he’s raw and unpredictable, unfortunately that doesn’t lend to consistency.

I agree, but.......

There aren't many good strikers around these days.

Of all the other 9s in the Prem, not all score those chances. Some get all three. Others one or two. Others none.

I was quite critical of him last night, which I stand behind. However one thing I will say, is it's good he's getting in those positions. He is b coming increasingly difficult for defences to "handle" and looks more powerful and aggressive getting to the ball now.

In my time watching Everton, I would say only 2 players I can really think of where I'd say the same. 1 was Lukaku, and the other was DCL under Carlo where you just felt opponents would struggle to handle them.

It's a small sample size and we get to see between now and the end of the season if he falls away a bit, but he looks like he will score quite a few goals for us.

I know people see it as a binary, but I do wonder if there is a world where DCL may play some games in the Doucoure role which may also help Beto too.

For the second one his second touch let him down, he pushed it to his left hand side, and cos he was always going to hit it with his right he gave himself too much to do trying to curl it around the keeper. Ideally he'd have created an angle with his second touch, or had a third which created the angle, the keeper was massively exposed both times, he could have pushed the ball on to his right and gone around the keeper both times, or shifted the ball enough to create the angle to slot it.
The ones he's been scoring lately were when he ran on to the ball and didn't touch it until his finish. These ones he was running with the ball towards the keeper, it's a different skillset and he messed up his control both times.
Hopefully they work on that in training as he'll likely get more chances like that with the way he plays.
