Also Serie A is a totally different league. And this is the first run he has had I remember when he signed he played well his first few games and against Sheff United and was dropped after then only got cameos in a team that did not play to his sttengths. Also Dyche had little interest seemingly in improving our attack and coaching forward players, Moyes is totally the opposite and he is willing to mix it up. Its why I never thought Beto was as bad as somr people said even if he did and has struggled with his hold up play, his strength was always running onto through balls and finishing and only now is he getting thosr balls and has improved his overall game with a run and coaching.I sort of think improvement can be broadly defined in 2 concepts, secular and cyclical. The first is like long term improvement as a player goes int their prime, the 2nd more of a turnaround because they were being badly utilised.
I think Moyes is very good at the latter. Basically finding talented players who were being badly used, and putting them into a different system.
With Beto I think there is a bit of both. He has been badly utilised under Dyche, who's approach didnt help strikers (no surprise to see DCL looking better for the brief time he was fit under Moyes). But also as indicated strikers who are physical can often get better with age too, especially for guys like Beto who are late starters. DCL is a bit like this too.
I look at someone like Mateta and do think Beto could give us something similar. It's not the most eye catching, but it's very effective.
I'm similar insomuch as I agree- you are getting way ahead of yourself. Slow that pony down, bald eagle.I watched the highlights of the last few games, since Moyes came in, and watching Beto's finishing for some of those goals reminded me in a way of Gary Lineker in the season he was with us. Put through on goal, burst of pace, adjusts body shape, calm and patient and a one touch finish. Not trying to get ahead of myself here but wondered if anyone else thought similar.
This did cross my mind. The Jelavic bubble is another. Can we be grateful he's getting a few goals without lauding him too much yet. DCL had a purple patch once as well.
We don't get many nice things, let us enjoy him until it all goes pear-shaped please.I'm similar insomuch as I agree- you are getting way ahead of yourself. Slow that pony down, bald eagle.
Best striker since the last best strikerCan we be grateful he's getting a few goals without lauding him too much yet. DCL had a purple patch once as well.
Mate, I said his finishing for his last few goals reminded me of how Lineker could finish. That's all.Beto scores a couple of goals and people starts to make Lineker-comparisons![]()

People can laugh, but his last finish honestly reminded me of R9.Mate, I said his finishing for his last few goals reminded me of how Lineker could finish. That's all.
I remember Jelavic and I need more than 6 months.I think Beto is the real deal for two reasons. One, he already has the goalscoring instinct and finishing ability. Two, he is a physical monster. You can work with that and make it better. Before Moyes, he looked a little clueless as if he didn't know what his role was. He struggled to get involved. Every game since Moyes he has gotten better at finding the spots he needs to take up and getting into the game. If he was going to fail, his lack of understanding would have been the biggest reason. He seems to understand what he is doing better now.
