Great interview. Very humble, likeable lad.
Arise Sir StrentfordMix Straq, Marcus Bent, and Jermaine Beckford and we have a Beto!
I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way.
Big, out and out number 9 style players often blossom in their late 20s.An interesting one about can you improve at 26/27 in fundamentals, I think the answer is rarely but yes some players can do. I'd say the evidence of that can be seen yesterday in Mateta for palace who up until last season looked distinctly very average and suddenly he improved greatly and now looks one if the better out and out strikers in the league - pretty much the same age as Beto as well.
Yesterday and a lesser extent the derby though I saw him doing things that are a huge improvement over what we'd seen prior. Yesterday he was great in the air for example and using his chest like Fellaini almost, that's obviously down to the coaching staff from Moyes getting with the lad and the lad working on specific parts of his game which just frankly seem to have been largely ignored in training from other coaches.
Does appear he may be a late bloomer as a player though right now
Mateta’s a bit of a weird one, he was always highly rated and he was absolutely outstanding in Germany but for some reason he didn’t seem to settle here for a while. I watched him live for Mainz a few times and he always looked like he was destined for the top, I’m surprised it’s taken as long as it has.An interesting one about can you improve at 26/27 in fundamentals, I think the answer is rarely but yes some players can do.
