Am I the only one who thinks Bergkamp was a tiny bit overrated? Great player no doubt and capable of moments of absolute genius but his stats were nothing amazing and it’s not as though he took Arsenal to a champions league or anything. Does he really deserve to be in the conversation of best PL player ever? I just wonder how he would compare now to the Silvas and Hazards of this world if he was playing rather than the period he did where being any sort of flair player set you aside from the dross. Would all the top teams be casting aside their attacking options to accommodate him in a way they undoubtedly would for a prime Henry Shearer or Ronaldo?

Vardy carried them in the 1st 3 months, Mahrez in the 2nd 3 months. Kante was their best player when they packed it in tight at the end.

Essien could pretty much play any position on the pitch. Kante can just play Gana's position (albeit very very well). He's platooned forward now for Chelsea and like Gana in an advanced position is rather useless there. Did Kante scare you even once when he had the ball in the final 1/3 this weekend?

I don’t think he fits front foot possession football the sort that Sarri plays. In a counterattacking team though like Leicester was or Conte’s Chelsea and France then Kante is the most important midfielder in the world. It’s a good job Klopp never got him because he’d be perfect for that lot over the park.

Giggs was the best left winger in the world for a while. One club man and the best in his position-- at the same age when Ronaldo was trying to move to Madrid.

Cant believe from a young debut...tonnes and tonnes of games at an early age...he lasted so long and Ferguson even played him centre midfield to get him on the pitch

Great these sort of topics. Football is about opinions from the fans and great to see so many top players named. General concensous seems to be goalscorers, so on that basis will go for Bergkamp. Team players, toss up between Keane and Rooney, both gave 100% for their team.

I know many will disagree but I think Rooney is the most complete player to play football in this country. My memory only goes back to 66 but have seen nothing to compare with him. Some amazing players in what they did, but he did everything.

Was just about to post something similar. The impact he had at such a young age and continued to have over such a long period of time with so many honours is unprecedented.

Just started reading through this thread, and yep, Kanchelskis probably the best Everton player in the PL era. Rooney left before he really made his mark, arguably the best from Lukaku is still to come. Arteta probably second-best PL Everton player.
