2020/21 Bernard

Out performed our entire midfield last year which included more assists, goals, dribbles, and even tackles against Iwobi, Siggy, Iwobi, Gomes and playing less games.

So...he's not entirely useless.
That's an even damning worrying statistic for Everton and back up all the berating I have said of these players.

The bottom line is Everton wont win anything, zilch, nada until they are removed and some replacements can be brought in. Richarlison and Lewin will leave Everton if they don't make some meaningful progress over the next year if these wasters are still at the club

Unless - fans are happy to piss about in the bottom half of the league with Brighton and Palace - which seems the case from responses I see here

Yes I would have to agree that Neymar just about edges our Bernie. Pele too!

But he ain't not Maradona - Diego was just the GOAT. I remember in the late 80s and 90s watching this chap on telly in Ireland in the evenings after GAA training. He was just mesmeric so he was. Messi not really fit to tie his boot laces

Franco Baresi said Milan needed 2 or 3 players to mark him when Milan ever played Napoli - a 1:1 and you have no chance. He was just ridiculously talented and the crazy thing is he was stoned out of his nut half the time too

No it doesn't.

But does mean that he's more beneficial than 4 more other midfielders.

It very well could do. If a player is outperforming the players around him it also means he is playing with a bunch of wasters! Put him in a better team himself with better support and players around him, and it follows logically that his own performace will also massively improve.

This is why I think we shouldn't be too hasty with Bernard when he does seem to have real talent/skill. I don't see anything with the others really but with Bernard, rightly or wrongly I do feel he could make a bigger contribution in a better side, or else make a terrible side, better.

Good players play well regardless of if they have good players around them. Yes there are some average players that can perform a role better when the rest of the team functions better, Doucoure is certainly like this, but still they are average. One of our problems is we put a lot of money toward getting and keeping these types of players.

Weird that he’s got so much stick despite being pretty good whenever he’s played this season

If we wanted to go 4-2-3-1 on Sunday, then he should start
It would be if that were true but he did next to nothing before the United game in his two sub appearances.

He's improved you say?

Soon grammar school kids will be dreaming of the day they can get Bernard tattooed on their torsos. A legend in the making.

But will Everton prove big enough to contain him?

Maradona when he was destroying everyone in the 80s and 90s for the most part had average players around him - a few outstanding players here and there for club and country but for the most part he was the stand out star. In 1990 Argentina were pitiful yet he almost won them the 2nd WC on the bounce , would have been the first player ever to captain 2 WC winning teams I think too.

So yes if you are really good you can excel and drive on the mediocre crap around you to success also

Bernard looks like some chap you seen on banged up abroad, he is a decent player in his own right but he and all the other misfits I mentioned are not simply not good enough for this Everton 'project' of challenging the big 6 -- or whatever its called.

Football is different now. I'm not sure comparing it to the 80s does much good.

I mean he wasn't bad though. None of the players were 'good' so I'm not going to pick him out as any worse than the others.

I don't think he's good enough to play when all our first-choice starting XI are fully fit and playing well, but they aren't at the moment.

We need better, but he played well against United. If he's on the bench that's fine, but if we play 4-2-3-1 (with James in the middle) then he has to start really.

I assume you're thinking of starting him on the right in that situation which would mean a right side of Bernard and Kenny. I hate it.
