Not all midfielders are on the pitch to play the ball forwards. Many different roles these days. Obv never that calibre but Busquets isn't exactly an attacking CM god is he?
Busquets passes forwards whenever there is opportunity, plays one touch football better than anyone and dictates the pace of football games.

Kante, THE holding midfielder of the PL passes forwards. As does Matic, Dembele. Even Dier and Henderson do it.

This lad has got an awful long way to go. And has done nothing to justify inclusion.

Have you really watched him play all that much? I'm not saying he's amazing but our midfield is WANK and he deserves a pop.

Still yet to see anything worthy of 39 pages or words. He's bright, he's brave. Like any player just getting into the first team.

He passes sideways because it's easy. And good on him, feeling his way into playing PL football.

Looks about half the prospect that Davies did in his first season. And now people think he's guff.

Just because the answer isn't Schneiderlin, doesn't mean it is this young lad (yet).

Very true. I like Beni, and he’s shown up well in his early years at u18/23 but he rarely looks outstanding at U23s level , then I remember that Davies was the same two years ago and then managed a rapid step up to PL level that his peers like Ledson and Walsh didn’t. I’m thinking Beni will be the same and will look good in any PL mins he gets for us as he has the ability to follow the plan he’s told to, keep it simple and don’t go too far up the pitch. Then it’s also about us giving him time to develop and seeing if he’s going to be good enough.

Needs to learn the forward pass. Too many youngsters coming through in football now thinking you’re a good player if you just sit deep and pass it sideways to keep possession.

Both of you spot on here.

I’ll be honest and admit I haven’t seen much of the lad , but what I’ve seen is someone who plays it very safe.
Maybe that’s what he’s been told to do but if you compare him to McTominay or Foden he’s way behind in his forward play

The issue here is that we’re expecting a defensive midfielder to magically become a playmaker. That’s not his job, hes good at what he does, just needs a playmaker next to him to lay the ball off to.

I would imagine Beni, Davies and Dowell would be a well balanced combo. They must have all played together at some point?

Honestly mate, I don't expect him to create. I don't expect anything of him right now, just a few games into his career.

But lots in this place seem to think he's the next breakthrough star. And currently I just don't see how.

He made one good tackle vs Chelsea. Any others?

He'll be anchoring our championship winning midfield of 21/22 alongside Davies, Dowell, Lookman and Vlasic (or something).

He looks very good to me...not 'exciting in the traditional sense' but he never lets the team down when he comes on and seems to make us look far more solid...its interesting that the only stick to beat him with is his lack of forward passing...Gana isn't exactly Pirlo either.

Any other complaints about him other than not passing forwards much?

Why don't we back our young players...

They will be the stars of tomorrow...
The problem I see is every young player that comes through a fair amount of people seem to think we have unearthed the new improved Wayne Rooney. In reality we have a great bunch of youngsters who at present are showing potential... sadly most will fall by the wayside, as simply not good enough

I’ve criticised Gueye and McCarthy for exactly the same. If Baningime wants to make it at the top level he needs to add penetrative passing and aggression to his game, but yeah he’s at an ok level for a teenager.

I remember once on Saturday, he had the ball and looked up, but the other midfielders didn't seem to want to the ball so he ended up turning round and play it backwards, I think these young lads need to be playing with positive experienced players to continue their development.

No it's not. He has had a good hour or so playing for us to be able to judge if he will make it or not. Remember we are Evertonians and very clued up you know.

An hour or so of playing in this league is nothing, it’s a massive step up and takes time to adjust to.

He will need way more game time before you can properly judge him. We seem to expect youngsters to spend 60 mins on the pitch and justify inclusion in every game.

Anyway, I think he’s looked good so far.

I think he was jesting mate.
