Benefit Steet

And I'm telling you it's a minority. Of course it's an immigration debate if you're talking about immigrants!

If you shut down the current system too harshly as an alarmist and scaremongering approach to politics, then you hurt the net economy as you're overreacting to a small problem, which will in turn create a bigger problem.

Just because the Daily Mail and Express want to sell papers to you, it doesn't mean what they say is real. Papers exist to sell themselves - the "problem" you are so outraged about is so minute as to be not worth mentioning when considering the absolutely massive comparative benefits that come along with it.

I wasn't just talking about immigrants though was I. That was merely part of my original post. You are the one point blank refusing to notice anything else I have written so you can have your little rant about how good immigration is.

The thread is about benefits. I was talking about benefits across the board, you are focusing on immigration.

In an age of information, you insult peoples intelligence by thinking all our views come from murdochs media and tabloid newspapers. I live here mate I see what's going on.

The top 10% of earners pay far more in tax today in absolute terms and also as a % of overall tax receipts than they did 10-15 years ago. But hey, don't let that little detail get in the way of another opportunity to bash the rich, eh?

I'm not sure what your point is, unless you're trying to suggest that many of the richest people in society aren't avoiding tax to the tune of billions of pounds every year.

I said nothing about how much the rich are taxed, simply that the amount of abuse of the system at the top is far more impactful on society than the odd case of a benefits scrounger like the one mentioned in the OP.

What was it Gary Barlow avoided paying tax on, £26m ? You're looking at millions in tax missing from that case alone. The woman with 11 kids is screwing us out of about £100k a year.

And while all this tax avoidance is going on we've had MPs taking advantage of public money to get second homes which they were in no way entitled to, and using public tax revenues to fund extravagant lifestyles to which they are in no way entitled.

Benefit fraud is a smoke screen used by the elite to turn the spotlight away from them and onto the poor.

It's nothing to do with 'bashing' the rich, it's simple fact.

You're talking about immigrants coming over to Britain, taking advantage of rules to partake in so called "Benefits Tourism".

Great. I get that. I haven't point blank refused to notice that.

In response, I'm telling you the problem is minute and those very same rules allow the EEA citizens who come here to positively effect our economy far more than those "benefits tourists" take out.

So, in summary, if you crack down on benefits tourism, you also close the rules and the welcoming environment that allow the very good aspects of immigration to occur.

You are talking about a "problem" that is so much smaller an issue than you think it is that it'd be actually quite funny if it wasn't a view that was so harmful to society overall, and unfortunately so prevalent.

ok agree to disagree. We will never understand each others point of view. I think the problem is people like yourself accepting it as the norm and for the greater good.

Sorry but i don't appreciate my taxes going to some kid in Romania who's family have never worked here or paid a penny into the pot and have no intention of working. How bizarre an attitude I must have.

I also agree with Brennan abouth the rich tax dodgers, doesn't make it right on either end.

Well look it this way - if you were in a room of 100 people, and one of them started picking their nose, would you then highlight it as a problem for 70 of those people, or would you think "well, only one of them is doing it, the other 99 are fine".

If you have a problem with your taxes being misused, you should have a far, far greater problem with British people than benefits tourists, and even then the problem is relatively small.

Are you being deliberately obtuse. I already said British people who don't work and don't want to work. Or who spit kids out are as bad. You are seemingly not wanting to notice I have said these things.

No I know you did, but just saying that's the comparatively bigger problem overall by quite some distance. So if you really wanted to rage about taxes being misspent on the benefits system, it'd be there.

Well, actually, it should be at the numerous bodies that have let these people down, but that's a more difficult target.

this is not an immigration debate. It's about benefits. I have said more than once, I am talking about immigrants who come here SPECIFICALLY to claim benefits.

I have also said British people who refuse to work are just as bad. Take your blinkers off and read mate.

The education system is at breaking point because we are over populated mate same as the NHS and other public services.
Dont worry, people in here read what they want in to comments and blow it all out of proportion without listening to reason..

I'm not raging, thought we were having a sensible debate.

I do blame the powers that be that have allowed it to happen. In any given situation people will try to take advantage to their own gain. Don't know how to change that though.

The same political parties are always in power, nothing ever changes they are just fronts for the corporates. Money talks and like has been said it's easier to deflect the attention onto the poor.

I am but one man expressing his own views on a particular subject, nothing I say or do matters one iota in the grand scheme of things. That doesn't mean I can't be annoyed by the things going on around me.
