Beer, revisited

I had a 'red' ale this week. Never heard of a red ale before, just tasted like bitter. Is this a new fancy advertising slogan, or has it always existed ?
Been around a good long while and generally an Irish thing, Beamish Red was the first I remember encountering, and Kilkenny. I got onto Smethwick's in Belfast.
I mean technically yeah its a bitter, they tend to be a little sweeter.
You're also seeing red IPAs and the like.

Bass is now the fastest growing cask beer in the UK.

Bass No. 1 in cans used to be a good drink but can't seem to find it now. Also Burton Bitter was a good pint on draught and was reddish in colour ,again I haven't seen that for a while.

Unfortunately, as it's more than a day since I drank it the name has long gone. I should get a little book to write the names down, but then then I'd start muttering to myself and passing comments on the types of hops used.

I had occasion today to go to the Roscoe Head. Very happy to see that they still had a mild on tap. A brewer that I haven't previously come across : North Cotswold Brewery.

I have to say that it was absolute nectar, smooth, great head and a fantastic taste, all you want from a mild. I have to confess , after another few pints later ( Brimstage Oyster Catcher) ...

And still am

It was very gratifying to see, on a miserable, rain soaked day and blowing a gale, the pub was packed on a Tuesday afternoon. Quality sells as always.
