BBC podcast on last season

Just listening to episode 6 where Iwobi and Gray are interviewed about relegation. There’s a bit where they’re asked about the pressure of being in a relegation battle, I found Grays comments particularly interesting. He said the pressure was always in the back of his mind and no one want to the pressure, they just want to come in a train etc.
Reason it jumped out to me was the not wanting the pressure bit. While they were talking about relegation, it just made me think they should always feel pressure, ideally to perform and win things. It sounded to me like him and likely a few of the others, don’t really feel any pressure to do well, only when the manure looks like it will hit the fan, is there a sense of pressure.
Might be reading to much into it, but it did resonate and remind of the old narrative that its all a bit too cozy at Finch Farm and everyone is quite happy to coast rather then their being an out and out winning mentality and pressure to perform / win amongst too many of them.

We've been performing better since we got rid of those two as well. I don't dislike either though

The podcast medium is every bit as vital as the video documentary. I might prefer it. A solid long form podcast is a real pleasure. Without opining on this particular show- I’ve heard the first 15 minutes of episode 1 so I’m not making an opinion yet- there’s no reason to think that a podcast is going to be “worse” than a video doc.

As a player and staff they do interviews all the time...they don't have camera crews around them 24/7. Would've probably relegated us if we did that.

And those netflix/prime docs are just PR exercises none of the people/club's involved ever want to do again in a season. Well documented the managers have complained

Kevin Thelwell came across really well. I always thought he looked like Graham Gooch's gangster younger brother sat up in the main stand but he's just a down to earth manc with a good sense of humour.

I'm a big Dyche fan, but when he assumed his best mate Ian Woan wouldn't be bothered by doing his best mans speech, but actually poor Woan didn't sleep for a week before the wedding and then was puking in the bogs because he was so petrified... it made me wonder about Dyche's emotional intelligence.

Dyche came across ok overall though, and it was a really good podcast.

Yeah well I listened to the first two episodes while eating a curry in bed
Always suspected you were red hot in the sack.
So far as this podcast malarkey, is it another means to push blame around or is there anything worthwhile in there that gives genuine insight? Has the team behind these done any other club or is there some home cooking?

Finding it very good / fascinating tbh. Some of the stuff has probably been in the written press at the time it was said, but hearing the player, maanger and Thewell etc add a new dimension to it, some of the nuance that’s lost in written press can add a different slant.
Coleman is on it a fair bit and i have to say he comes across as a really genuine fella. Talking about rallying the team during the end of last season was quite interesting, could just be sound bites i guess, but it made me a bit annoyed hearing him say how he was trying to cajole teammates to up the anti and remember what it means to the fans etc.
no blame games, if anything they cover the issues between board and fans very evenly. Neither Bill nor DDB would agree to be interviewed in what I’ve listen to so far and they make it clear they were given numerous chances to.

Blitzed it all today - very good listen. Would recommend people check out the Thelwell stuff, certainly the most interesting part for me.
Agreed, I'm on that episode now. Keep rewinding because I realise I've not been listening closely, and it's by far the most interesting section. Everything else has been like reliving a long nightmare that I thought I'd got over - but it's kept my brain occupied while working on the house today.

By the way, I don't know how widely this is known, but all 10 episodes of this are already up on BBC Sounds. I thought at first that only the first 2 were available, because that's all that's currently in the Apple Podcast app.

... and again, let's get it right - there's no obligation for the board to attend any fixture. To release this statement and to influence pundits as they did, when they did, was entirely self preservation to undermine fans.

Leading pundits spoke of how they were approached to undermine fans.

We can't be having the club maintain that charade and continue, today, to point fingers at fans who are so 'credibly' dangerous that club employees simply can not attend fixtures.
Nothing has changed and won't until the likes of Colin are purged.

In the 3rd episode...apart from some PTSD its now a document of the absolute farce some of the stuff that went on (and still goes on).

Puts to bed the Anthony Gordon was "allowed" to miss training...when he sent a text to say he was "sick"

Lampard being sacked was a leak from the clubs side.

The press were briefed well before it was even announced Dyche was manager too.

Iwobi admits that some of the players in the final weeks are doing things in terms of preparation which they wouldn't ordinarily do.

What a gang of crooks. It's ok to take the mick till the crunch eh.

Didn’t mind Gray. Never liked Iwobi. Has all the talent but has no football brain. A bit like our Tom Davies. Decent squad player but will never be remember for anything than being completely average. Especially Iwobi, he’s became a multi millionaire for never even breaking a sweat. His stats are laughable.
