Baines pleads for club to stop selling best players

Some clubs do it to clear dead wood, some do it to survive. Guess which category we fall into.

Sounds like Bainsey's sick of it anyway, and it must be a dressing room issue.

Well, if we'd kept (or more precisely, been able to keep) Rooney, Lescott, Fernandes, Pienaar, Arteta etc do you think we'd have won something by now? Very likely I'd say.

We wouldnt have kept them though as they wanted to move. Or in Fernandes case not sign at all.

Which is why I said 'been able to keep' them. If you have a club whose owners wont or cant get the required level of investment to show ambition by not only keeping key players but also adding to the squad then good players are going to play the club's game and go for a big fee to another club to achieve ambition. There's no way any of those players would have left in a hurry if we'd have been financially well run.

If we had been able to keep rooney and had some cash to spend each summer we could have gone on to be a top 4 side very easily as other players would join to play with him.

If Lescott + Jags were our centre back partnership with Baines on the left and IF we had signed Naughton and Walker from Sheff Utd when we had the chance then we'd have the best defence in the league.

Add those to say, Fellaini and Jelavic now and that's quite a formidable side already....

If we had money, Moyes I think would prove to be very successful, Defour, Hazard, Essien and of course Moutinho were previous targets for our midfield.

What a shame.

Felli said something similar towards the end of last season, or pleaded with the board to open their wallets.

It does seem though that, and the vibes that I seem to be getting is we haven't got to sell - only for ridiculous money for top players.

Anyway, horrible time of year, just gonna chill till august meself

Exactly. We're run like a whelk stall. The Kenwright years have been an utter disaster for this club. How some others cant see that he's been responsible for Everton missing the boat I dont know. He's failed on almost every conceivable level as an owner/chairman. It just goes to show what soft touches many people are for a bit of old bullshit about being a big blue (sorry, the biggest blue) and believing every utterance the trained actor comes out with about those who'd like him gone...aided and abetted by the scum in the local press of course.

What you talking 'bout, Willis?

We hold onto players we could sell until they lose their form and all value. I know we turned down offers for both Saha and Yakubu much much bigger then what we ended up getting for them.

Knowing when a player has peaked and should be replaced is a skill the best managers have.

TBF to ginger pubes, he might see all that but think: "hold on, if I sell players A, B, and C I'll probably just get back the money on one of them to go out and buy player X.

He'll sell when he's told to, but not before that point, IMO.

At least he's not Johnson!

This is a great point, and I fully agree.
