Baines pleads for club to stop selling best players

Some clubs do it to clear dead wood, some do it to survive. Guess which category we fall into.

Sounds like Bainsey's sick of it anyway, and it must be a dressing room issue.

Well, if we'd kept (or more precisely, been able to keep) Rooney, Lescott, Fernandes, Pienaar, Arteta etc do you think we'd have won something by now? Very likely I'd say.

You can't keep an unhappy player, even United had to sell, Beckham and Ronaldo.

The worrying thing is, the more we sell him for, the less likely it is we will resign him if he flops...

Why do United want Baines when they have Evra? I think rrrrr Leighton is better and I know Evra's getting on a bit, but they're both too good to be sitting on the bench which one would be.

Thing with evra is that he runs out of steam half way through a season. He goes all out in the first half, then falls flat. As he gets older, it'll get worse. I'm sure his assists are low these past few seasons.

As for Baines...well, its simple. They don't have a good enough back up for evra. And to be fair, they're gonna get Baines for a good price from us compared to others of his calibre who may not cut it in the prem.

Without checking stats, I'd put money on Baines creating and scoring more goals in the last two seasons than Evra has in his Utd career.

Baines Goals 12 Assists 15 last 2 Seasons
Evra Goals 3 Assists 16 Since 2006

I guess you are correct.

But it must be noted Baines takes a lot of pens.

So what your saying is that if Moyes had been allowed to build the squad he wanted he would have won us trophies?

For what it's worth most of those players were sold willingly by the club who didn't want to pay loyalty bonuses and to keep themselves looking like the innocent party. Bill and his boss know that they would have caused uproar had they been seen to willingly sell our best players every year.

No doubt whoever goes next will be panto villain while the more gullible lap up every spiteful word the Echo print in order to cement a lucrative partnership.

I just hope the people finally see through it if it's Baines. The lad has never put a foot wrong for us on or off the pitch and is one of the few players I genuinely admire.

No, that it'd have been likely. It'd be realistic to believe we could have bagged a domestic cup over, say, 6 to 7 seasons with those players on board.

I think they did with Arteta.

Goals aren't really relevant because of the pens, and because when a fullback scores it's usually a fluke and not indicative of their attacking input.

On top of that we generally look to use Baines more than United use Evra or Chelsea Cole, as we had/have less quality attacking players. That said anyone who's seen each player has to know that Baines can do things with a ball that Cole and Evra couldn't even dream about. Baines' crossing is sublime whereas Evra's in particular is just not noticeable -- in fact I'd argue that Hibbert last season was a better crosser of a ball than Patrice Evra.

I know we did ok on occasion last season without him, but that feller Baines is worth his weight in gold. He's consistently excellent. You simply dont get shut of players like him unless you're over a barrel. As stated above, I'm getting the awful feeling that Moyes may have been seduced into believeing that Baines is merely one way of approaching our attacking game and that he can go another way and it'll pay bigger dividends AND get cash in.
