I'd be less concerned with that than the actual amount we have , i.e, where we are shopping . If , say , Yobo leaves for £3m , well we're not phoning Wolfsburg , are we ???

Well I'm referring to last season. We got the Lescott cash late, then bought the 3 players. Fair enough on Heitinga; good price. But Distin, as much as I love him, was overpriced for a 31 year old and Bily... well who knows? This time next year I could be saying he was worth twice what we payed, or half.

But my point is that it doesn't leave you much time to be shrewd. The other team knows there's a clock, so it comes down to who needs most. Do they need to sell more than we need to buy? If it's not that, then they hold the cards.
