Attending the Dallas Cup this week

Supposed to be a really good tournament this, we've been twice. I think there was an article on the official site about it as Ross Barkley went 3 years ago and said it's a great experience for the lads. @Philtex I think the likes of Ledson, Liam Walsh and I'm sure Kenny is going to this, in fact I'm.pretty sure we've took a very good squad over there. If I can root out the article where I read the squad I will post the link for you. Walsh looks decent to me though mate the little I've seen of him.

Here you go @Philtex http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2015/03/25/everton-to-jet-out-for-dallas-cup

full squad there. Worth keeping an eye on Henen as well who I think we will end up signing at the end of the season on a permanent deal. It's a good squad so keep us posted who stands out for you ;)

I'm a new Everton American supporter this season and was excited to find out the younger lads will actually be competing this week right here in my own backyard. I only live about 30 minutes from the Dallas area. It may be 5 or 10 years before I get a chance to visit the UK on vacation at some point in the future, so my chances of seeing the Blues in person is really limited. So this is a great opportunity to see a few players in person that may eventually make it to the top level in the near future. Other than Ledson, I don't know much about our younger team. Any specific players I should pay attention to? Who do you think has the best chance to advance in a season or two? Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated!

I see our school still go http://allsaintspedepartment.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/ellis-messham-captain-of-knowsley-youth.html

I played in the Dallas Cup in 1994 for All Saints.

They better bloody win this cause they cancelled the Under 21 game down Norwich this Wednesday for this.

Seems like it will be a good experience either way for the lads.

Some more news from evertonfc:

Roberto Martinez says Everton's involvement in this week's Dallas Cup is a huge source of pride to the Club.

An Under-19s squad featuring the likes of David Henen, Kieran Dowell and Liam Walsh flew out Stateside on Thursday and face their first fixture today when they take on River Plate of Argentina. The Toffees will then tackle LA Galaxy on Monday 30 March, before completing their involvement in the group stage with a match against Japanese outfit Ryutsu-Keizai on Wednesday 1 April.

Everton earned their place in the competition by lifting the Premier Academy League title last season and, as such, are England's only representatives.

Martinez told evertontv: “It is a great experience first and foremost. It is a very prestigious competition that has been going on for a long time now. “To have our team there is reason to be very proud. You get there by winning the league, so that [underlines] the status of our football club. “It is a unique experience for players that age to go abroad, settle into a different culture and perform against some of the best teams around the world in terms of developing footballers.”

Given the opportunity of experiencing the Dallas Cup, Everton arranged for the likes of Callum Connolly, Jonjoe Kenny and Ryan Ledson to fly out in time for the opening game following recent international duty. And Martinez is pleased with the strength of the Toffees’ squad out in the US.

“It is going to be a rich experience for our youngsters to be able to change their environment,” he added. “We are going to get a more mature set of players back – that is why it was important that those who had been involved in international duty for their countries flew out to join the group. “We made sure we had a strong squad for the competition and we wish them the very best of luck.”

.......only English club to qualify following last years title win, it seems a really prestigious competition. The club clearly want their best players out there, Ledson, Kenny and Davies amongst others who have gone straight from international duty. Walsh and Dowell also worth keeping an eye on.

Interesting to see how we fair against top a South American talent and good to get the clubs name out there. Good luck lads.

Enjoy the 'soccer' mate! I don't know much about the youth teams, and they regularly play close to where my family live. I've been maybe half a dozen times in the last decade. Ledson has to be worth reporting back on, would love to know if he could be the real deal!

Hopefully @LinekersLegs will chime in. She always seems to know about Academy players.
I'd echo a lot of what @maccavennie and @Eggs have said.

The players I've seen the most are Ledson and Kenny, imo both have a good chance of being around the 1st team squad next year if not sent out on loan. Dowell and Walsh have been namechecked by Martinez in the past as being possibles.

Two I haven't seem much of and am looking forward to are Henen, who has been on a good scoring run in the Everton U21s the past couple of months and Holland, who had an excellent game for the England U17s earlier in the week.

Great competition for them to be in, hope they do well.
