Squeaky Bum Time for real
Squeaky Bum Time for real
We will be getting the inside track from every day of the young Blues' Dallas Cup 2015 tour. Today it's the turn of defender Jack Bainbridge, who relives his goal against Ryutsu-Keizai and a nervous wait to discover whether the win is enough to progress through to the semi-finals.
We had our pre-match meal at breakfast because today’s game was a 2pm kick-off. I like to eat simple things before games. Today, for example, I had chicken and pasta for the carbohydrates and protein.
Then we went back up to our rooms and I chilled out for a bit with James Yates and Nathan Holland with some music.
We got to the game and we were all really up for it because we knew what we had to do and we wanted to win by two goals to give ourselves a good chance of qualifying.
We noticed in the warm-up that the pitch was lively but I think we coped with it well. I came off the bench in the second half, which was difficult in the conditions because it was warm and humid - but luckily we got that second goal and we defended well in the last 20 minutes.
It was great to score, it always is. It was a big kick from the goalkeeper and three substitutes combined to get it - [Calum] Dyson flicked it on, Delial [Brewster] took it on and squared it for me to tap it home.
I can’t remember the last time I scored - it’s certainly been a while! But it was a great feeling to get it for the team.
It’s a nervous wait in the hotel now to see whether or not it’s enough to go through to the semi-finals. All the lads are sat around refreshing phones and listening to commentary of the games - but we’ll have to wait and see what happens!
