If only in response to pondering why people would spend so much to make such a dangerous journey we would think that its because there is no alternative rather than they are criminals.

This is especially so when those same people support a government that is little more than traffickers itself with its Rwanda policy.

No one is saying that the people in the boats are criminals. The criminals provide the boats. Families doing this obviously feel it’s the only way in either because they don’t know otherwise or are desperate, though why anyone is desperate to leave France is another issue. This should be dealt with by the wonderful EU, but those desperate to be in the U.K. for family or other reasons should be dealt with in France via a legal mechanism prior to being put on a train, plane or ferry to the U.K….

Nothing illegal about coming to the UK if you're claiming asylum.

This doesn't "break the model of people smugglers" it enables it.

We provide no safe routes - unless you're from Ukraine. It's also not illegal to claim asylum in the UK regardless of where you have come from. You don't need to settle in the first country you arrive in (it's a myth). We could easily sort the problem out by enabling a better system for asylum application but we don't want to.

And let's be honest, this lot couldn't manage a piss up in your pub, nobody seriously expects them to actually stop any boats.

Just fix the system and stop people relying on criminal gangs and putting peoples lives at risk…I agree no one will stop any boats until the system works, but even then there will be some…If you have an answer apart from just throwing open the borders let’s hear it…..

Can we not pretend that there is no solution to this and the UK has exhausted all available options...because it's tried precisely nothing.

Provide safe routes into the UK where asylum claims are properly processed - It works with Ukraine. Actually prosecute trafficking gangs (you'll get no arguments against that from me), stop using asylum seekers as scapegoats for the countries problems, provide humanitarian/asylum visas that allow you to cross borders.

Nobody seriously wants to come to the UK on a small boat or pay a trafficking gang money to do it - there's a reason people do it.

No one has said we have exhausted available options. I’ve been calling for this for years. Do it properly, do it legally and do it quickly….

That's exactly what this government is saying because they threaten to detain and deport people. Indeed, they threaten to treat them worse than criminals because they won't even have access to lawyers. This is the government you enable, and continue to enable by continuing to do next to nothing to actually learn about this issue.

We have friends in Estonia as I've done some work there. They speak English and have been told if Putin decides he wants to invade there too that they have a place with us. Now, assuming all air links out of Tallinn are grounded on account of said invasion, they might have to travel by land through the EU to get to us, which they want to do, both as they know someone here and they speak English. You could make a similar argument for the Czech family should the Russians decide to recreate 68 and send the tanks down Narodni Trida.

Family ties and language are the two main reasons why many choose to take the rights they have in international asylum law to seek asylum where they wish rather than in the first country they find themselves. You've been told this hundreds of times and yet international man of business seems to be hard of hearing. It's almost like you don't "want" to understand because that would force you to think the government you bend over defending is actually turning the UK into an international pariah.

For those commenting that haven't looked in detail at the bill. This doesn't just propose to
"Stop the boats", it goes well beyond that.
Which effectively means the U.K. only intend to accept asylum applications if the applicants are fleeing for their lives from their country of origin and can afford and be able to organise a flight direct to the U.K.🤔

Well except you can’t get on a flight without a visa , so in reality they’re shutting the door on any asylum seekers apart from Ukrainians or the couple of hundred that qualify via the specific available programs in Afghan & Syria .

But you use the Putin invasions as a reason to enter and that is more than just a valid reason. Escaping from war or persecution are what asylum is about. But at present the majority of people entering are not families, they are younger men, and from places like Albania where there is no war nor persecution. A great deal of this is economic migration and that is fine, but don’t jump the queue of people who go through the proper processes, by paying criminal gangs to put you on a boat. You say I don’t hear and that the U.K. will be a pariah, yet this is exactly what happens in countries such as USA, Canada, Australia etc. One of own children, married to a US citizen, had to go through the same hoops to live in the USA. What is missing is a fast system for actual asylum seekers, people who are desperate for help, and those that wish to come here for family, work or other reasons. All I’ve ever said on this is do it properly and do it legally and the people of the U.K. will have no issue, even if the numbers are higher. It’s the unfairness, lack of legality and the criminal involvement that really causes this angst. Just do it properly…..

Where are you getting this from mate?

Most asylum seekers being men from places like Albania?

Asylum seekers jumping the queues? You do realise asylum is it's own department in and of itself, don't you? They do not get priority over people who have entered legally, please stop saying this.

Is there any viable source you get this information from?

You may as well talk to a brick wall.
