Pete, the things you have been right about in this thread are equal in number to the amount of finance director mates you have who changed their minds about Brexit. You're acting like an idiot. As a fan of your general work, please stop this madness.

Of course, just as soon as you admit I’m right on this issue....

I actually have an element of pity for them as surely a person of reasonable sound mind would not have carried out such a stupid act so blithely and with such little concern for the outcome.
I feel pity that they have ruined their lives because they allowed themselves to be brainwashed by someone who could care less about their fate. But I don't feel pity about holding them responsible for their stupidity. The US government can't allow for people to get away with being punished because they didn't know better, otherwise this would become an excuse to get away with such misconduct.

But you know I’m right....
In case you had forgotten, the argument that you are claiming to be right about is that Pelosi needs to be get shut of in order for reconciliation to successfully happen. People on the thread have expressed their opinion as to whether, in their hearts, you are right. Your continuing to assert that you are right on the matter doesn’t actually make it right in fact. I think you know that though.

How in the world is Ireland relevant to the United States and the impact of decisions made in the 1860s here that are relevant here, today?

In answer, they are not except as a distraction.

So decisions made 150+ years ago should determine how you approach the problems of today. So being from Texas do you still hold confederate views ? Now THAT is a distraction......

You are just using your own words and none of mine. I have made my position on lawbreaking and violence very clear.

There is no doubt that politicians wound up these people, but like it or not, one of those politicians was Pelosi. You, like others in here, are treating this as Democrat v Republican, and thats natural I suppose.

Not being an American, but loving the country nonetheless, I’ve only held two Presidents in any great regard; as a kid the most impressive politician of the age was a Democrat with the initials JFK, I thought he was a great man, and was shocked beyond belief when he was killed. The other was a Republican who was impeached, by the name of Nixon, a man who I saw as strong and with a great intellect. I would perhaps give an honourable mention to Bush Snr.

So with no political axe to grind I can call it exactly how I see it....
What exactly did she do to wind them up Pete?

What specifically?

Decisions of 150 years ago regarding seditious traitors are directly impacting our politics of today. That is utterly indisputable. Why in the world would we want to repeat the same mistake, Pete?

Punishing criminally those who were directly involved and politically those who encouraged it seems to be the most adult, the most healing thing to do, no?

I’m struggling to think of an example where taking a kid gloves approach with insurrection ended well. The two most prominent examples in my mind, post Civil War USA and Weimar Germany, ended in disaster.

Personally, my instinctive reaction would be to agree with you. I just think in the current environment it would be wrong.......
