My husband found out yesterday that an old friend, who we not longer communicate with given our different ideologies, posted in his FB page that he was at the riot in Washington and his GPS location shows him inside Capitol Hill. I'm indignant at the thought this rich white guy felt so entitled to break the law and post about it on FB that I told my husband that we should report him to the FBI. But then I'm also having hesitation at the notion that we could ruin his life. Any suggestions? @LinekersLegs @BlueTX @verreauxi @Tin-Tin @SteveSC what would you all do?

You would not be alone if you did so. I think this part is particularly relevant, what do you think the person might do if this incident does not deter them?

Increasingly estranged friends and relatives told The Washington Post they were driven to law enforcement by their own politics, a sense of moral obligation and a fear of what their loved ones could do next.
“They left me no choice because they are on such a destructive path and I do worry about other people’s safety as well as theirs,” said a Texas woman who recounted learning through social media that family members were on the Capitol lawn, apparently beyond the barriers that rioters toppled. Her husband said he can corroborate that she informed the FBI.

The New Yorker is a legitimate media outlet, and as such he will almost certainly have prior paperwork indicating that he had received press credentials to cover the rally that was already taking place, and when it escalated into a coup/riot he just continued to document events as they unfolded. What doesn’t appear to be holding up is with law enforcement is YouTubers who were really there for the coup but just stuck some sort of “Press” badge on their clothes.

I think there is a range of views where you can just agree to disagree.

However there are some divides that are just to great - for instance believing that there is a satanic cult of cannibal pedophiles that runs the country, you just can’t really wave that away and talk about the weather. Especially if it means that the person follows it up by buying guns and talking about hanging traitors.
