Ask Steve Walsh?

Ask him if he thinks it’s fair that even though him and Brands will probably have the same success, Brands will evade the stick due to having a foreign name.

Some of the vitriol Walsh gets is a bit over the top. He is clearly a very good scout, and he was probably acting more as a chief scout than what you would consider is a true DOF. He was over promoted, and it would be interesting to find out how much of a final say he had on transfers. I would imagine he just found players to fit a profile he was given.

A key problem wasKoeman probably though he was acting under a continental-style DOF, and Walsh probably thought he was more of a chief scout. This confusion probably caused a lot of the issues.

Would we be better off now if instead of signing Siggurdson, we had just taken Rooney on a free and kept him at the club? Sometimes feels like we ditched the wrong number 10. Rooney may be on the slide, but from a purely financial perspective his transfer makes more sense. In addition he is still a better player, even though he will have less explosiveness these days. He still has more skill than any player in our squad.

Allardyce alluded to the use of an algorithm company providing data to support the business case for buying Tosun. How important is this in your player recruitment strategy and what other techniques do you use to assess player fit, potential and quality?

....it seems that way, which makes it truly amazing. I’d love him to answer these questions, and surely Moshiri asked similar when he sacked Koeman and gave Walsh more money to bring in the likes of Tosun.

Steve, what did Moshiri say to you when he sacked Koeman and, more importantly, what did you say to him?
I wonder if we’d have fared better with Koeman alone making the signings?

Perhaps Steve Walsh was the problem?

....you have to think Klaassen was a Koeman signing, plus he was in the stands watching Sandro so i’m not sure the signs were good.

Regardless, having two men with separate transfer agenda’s is a recipe for disaster. Moshiri apparently spoke with both, Walsh blamed Koeman, Koeman blamed Walsh. Moshiri sacked Koeman.

Haha - while hanging Walsh over some alligators and setting the rope on fire for a “gradual release!”
