Transfer Rumour Ashley Young

I shouldn't overreact

And I get that some will say "give him a chance" etc

However, all I will say is this;

When we sign used up aging journeymen players, it's very rare that they end up being worth the money

Delph, Williams, Rondon, Mark Hughes, David Ginola, Townsend, Walcott, McGeady, Cleverley, Hitzlsperger

I could go on

Basically, anyone who is worried or thinks this is a super underwhelming signing that isn't going to work is not being unreasonable based on past experience

By and large, when most of us think a signing like this is going to be disappointing, it's invariably the case
Tom Cleverley was 25 when we signed him!

I know he was crap but calling him an aging journeyman is a bit harsh!

The one thing I will say for Young is unlike those listed he has been playing at a good level. Theoretically if he continues his Villa form here next season then it will be a decent enough deal.

I don't like him though. I remember him diving against Villa after he has just signed for United and thinking what a knob.

Put it this way,

Would you rather we spaff all our dough on a left back rather than 2 (maybe 3 if we are lucky) forward options to keep us in the division? Hopefully Young isn't commanding a massive signing on fee like.

Happy Ashley Young day. Any car trackers whether he is on route already to FF :) ?
Just seen KT and Youngie at Sandbach services
Ash is having a double sausage egg mcmuffin and Kev is having a muffin with jam
The 5 year contract is smeared in tomato sauce and strawberry jam

The pro arguments in this thread are mind-boggling.

The only pro argument I can see is that signing him would probably allow us to sell Godfrey (if there's any sort of market for him) as Young then provides the 3rd choice option for both full back positions

Having said that, I genuinely loathe Ashley Young, so there's absolutely no way I'd ever get behind this

He's definitely, if he legs still work, a better full-back than most of what we have but we'll get like, what, one season out of him? It's just a band aid fix. Plus I bet his wages are stupid for his age. If the club's plan is to just patch us up every Summer in the hope we finish 17th then they're going the right way.

Apparently he was on about £50k a week at Villa but it's us and we are stupid so we will go and give him £70-80k probably.

Let's be honest, arguing over player targets is exactly what the Owner, Chairman and Board want.
At least we're not directly talking about them.

Kenwright needs a tragic accident.

Moshiri needs an Etch a Sketch or some play-doh to keep him entertained.

The board needs some competent additions.

Once those three are sorted, then we can argue if a free agent who is nowadays bang average in a number of positions due to his advanced age is worth it or not.
