Are we angling for Lukaku?

Lukaku may be a Chelsea fan, but he's also hugely ambitious and knows that if he spends most of the time on the bench he's not going to develop and become the player that he should and could be. The thing that has impressed me most about him is the way he keeps alluding to wanting to develop and improve as a player, knowing that he needs games above all else. That's why he went to WBA and that's why he's with us. I just don't think he's going to get that if he goes back to Chelsea, and at the end of the day professionalism usually trumps sentiment in this business. I'm sure that he's looking at Ba and thinking that's the last place he wants to be.

It's up to Lukaku himself, I reckon. If he wants to return to Chelsea then that will obviously be what happens, but if he wants to stay with us I'm sure that a deal will be struck. I'm don't think wages would be an such issue. Transfer fee we'd have to break our club record to at least come to a fair market price - but we all know that - and maybe that's why we're scrimping around in January.

Also, it makes sense for Lukaku to wait until summer before making up his mind - he'll know if he'll get CL or Europa football if he stays with us.

Got this to happen, you need two things, Chelsea's apparent involve my for a striker in the current window to be completely true, and the lad to be left disillusioned as a result!

I'm pretty sure Jose will bolster his attacking options in this window. Gonzalo Higuain has been mentioned. Frankly, a £50m signing like that is going to be 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice striker.

Make it happen, Jose.

Lukakujust cut his hair and posted this selfie... PERMANENT SIGNING CONFIRMED????

for us to get Lukaku, we need chelsea to splurge 30-40m on a superstar striker. Until then, it's not even worth talking about

I hope not, I really don't think he'll be worth the 20 odd million he'll cost and I'd much rather Martinez bring in a £10m striker this window.
This, also. Not an argument I find it too difficult to agree with. I'm willing to gamble on Lukaku's potential so I do support this 'all eggs in our summer basket' approach because it probably will pay off in the long, run but if we don't get Lukaku after sacrificing the chance to buy a desperately needed reinforcement then it'll be disastrous.

And given that's surely something Martinez is aware of (though I'm with him on the assessment we can have a few people do comepetent job up there) it makes me think, if we don't sign a big money forward this month he may well have been given anindication Lukaku may end up staying.

It is the case though isn't it? It seems like we have the money to invest in a Striker, but why invest in a striker now, when if we hang on 6 months, we could get a potential World Class striker, with that additional money? So play it safe spend £2m on a loan, and if we don't get Lukaku, we have £20m to spend on a striker(s), and we have potential to offer CL football, or at least Europe to lure in a striker, if Lukaku is unavailable in the summer, and we won't be rushed into a panic buy, and will have 3 months to find a replacement!

We need Chelsea to really come into form, Eto to start scoring and Torres back on track, once they no longer need Lukaku we have a chance, until then we just have to press onto 4th, do all we can

Lukaku could do well to look at the situation with DeBruyne.

Very good player who himself said that he wasn't playing enough and really wasn't given much of a chance.

Lukaku may want to go back but he needs to know up front that right now (barring them signing another striker or two) he more than likely wouldn't be first choice and would see a large drop in playing time. He may end up finding himself in the same situation as DeBruyne found himself in.

If that's a possibility AND Everton are willing to stump up the cash, there's a chance he stays.

But right now, I'd only put it at a 20% chance.
