apology from Manchester United

This, aside from the last bit. I wanted Moyes gone. He's gone. Can we all get over it now please, and concentrate on the people that actually are part of our club?

I think most people are more than over it. The more anti-Moyes sentiment is "he's gone, thank f@ck" and even most of the pro-Moyes types are embracing that we've got a change after 11 years

This thread is discussing a newspaper article which suggests United have apologised over the way they treated Everton and the general consensus is that the can shove their apologies up their arses. I don't think Moyes being gone is the issue at all

The thing that has always got to me has been, and I'll use Moyes and Rooney as an example, is that Man U seem to 'decide' how long we can keep a player.

Rooney was playing for us, they decided they wanted him, so 'you can't have him any more, he's mine'. Same goes for Moyes. It's the Premier League equivalent of 'give us yer dinner money'.

An apology from them is most unusual.

Spot on, i'm surprised its not happened with Baines but that might be down to Baines who will happily stay where the other two wanted to leave. I'm afraid it might get worse now due to Bill relationship with Moyes.

Mountain and molehills

This.
Unofficial talks happen all the time and it would be incredibly naive to think otherwise. I don't really blame Utd for what they did but it does show that Moist, good manager though he is, was never one of us. But that's true of the vast majority of managers and players in the top echelons. We're lucky that we have a nucleus of players who get it.

I'm a bit bummed out by this news to be honest

I thought Moyes had more integrity than that

I generally expect Kenwright to withold stuff. He's a football chairman, it's what they do

I expected more from Moyes though

It doesn't change all the positive things he did for Everton, but it does tarnish his legacy a bit

So Moyes knew it in January but didn't tell Kenwright, right? I wonder what would have happened if he told him, I think he wouldn't have been sacked anyway.

Towards the end I think Moyes actually had contempt for the fans. He looked down on and was too good for us, couldn't accept any criticism of his subs etc. Bought into the small club mentality that Bill was peddling with the fans as serfs who knew **** all and could not be trusted. You can get away with that with the financial environment created by our wonderful chairman at Everton, but at Utd he'll need to back that arrogance up with results.

It doesn't make it right though.

Like saying people cheat on each other all the time but it's no big deal.

You're right, it doesn't make it right. But we probably had a quiet word with Martinez to sound him out before our official approach. It's dead easy to say United are the villains here, but they were just looking after their own. For me, Moyes is the one that comes out of the whole situation looking bad. What goes around comes around though and at least everyone knows what the man is really like now.

Bore off Davie.

Given the choice, if this whole thing with Man U had never happened who would you rather have, Moyes or Martinez?

I can honestly say in some ways I prefer Martinez already. I know we haven't kicked a competitive ball yet but he's got that desire and enthusiasm that's been missing from Moyes for some time. He also seems to have incredible respect for us, and seems genuinely really happy to be given this opportunity.

I think it was time for a change really

I think Moyes had hit his ceiling

Plus, he wasn't playing Barkley where it looks like Martinez will
