Everton have received a written apology from Manchester United over the way they recruited then-Toffees boss David Moyes as their manager.
Goodison chiefs are still furious at the way they were treated by the champions over the pursuit of Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.
We can exclusively reveal that Old Trafford officials have said sorry in an attempt to diffuse the row, which threatened to escalate into a full-scale complaint to the Premier League.
Moyes - by his own admission - was approached by United months before the official announcement of his appointment.
Everton have also been stung by United revealing the Scot would replace Ferguson almost three weeks before the end of last season, ignoring the effect such a revelation would have on the end of the Toffees’ campaign.
Now the simmering resentment has led to Everton slamming the door shut on United’s move for England defender Leighton Baines.
The Old Trafford giants were hoping to follow up a £12million bid they made in June with a slightly increased offer.

they should instantly follow it up with an apology for the ridiculous offer for Baines both to the club and also to the player for valuing him to be worth so little.

the marketing dept should then have the apologies printed on good quality quilted triple ply bog roll so that we can all wipe our arses with it.

There's going to be a lot of red faces on the Moyes FC lot who were adamant their master couldn't have been so duplicitous to run down his contract. The issue really isn't Man Utd's behaviour so much as Moyes'.

I cant believe that divvy Kenwright at the end of season club award night was gushing over Moyes, telling him his legacy was safe, knowing all he knew about how he'd been preparing to waltz off without a care in the world....and even allowed the feller to hang around like a bad smell for three weeks picking the team and trying to influence who our new manager would be.

It really is literally a *shake head* moment.

Unbelievable.

genuinely after he was getting paid by Everton and meeting with giggs and SAF in the hotel id have sacked the [Poor language removed]

To accept this apology we offer you the gift of Baines or Fellani.

We are about to get played like a Piano, tell them to stick it.

I'd imagine there's a method in this madness, yes. United want to allow Kenwright to look 'strong' when he steps away from his *Leighton's not for sale* statement to sell him for around £17M. United aren't exactly known for their public apologies...so this is strategy.

great shout, as others have said if a player behaved this way, moyes would spit his dummy out big time

Mark as 'Return To Sender' send back with no stamp or not enough postage, hopefully they'll get 1 of those collect from post office cards, on a friday just after it has closed for the weekend.

The running down of his contract was the most shameful part for me. It was a deliberate tactic against a club who gave him his chance with the prem, stood by him for 11 years, made him one of the highest paid managers, and who he knew needed every penny of any transfer fee. I don't know why I expected better from him, but I did..........

The mirror either have a major exclusive or this is just bollocks.
Knowing the mirror i'd go with the second option. If we were so outraged you'd think moyes would have been sacked

Yep, was absolutely disgusting.

How did it make Kenwrong feel? Well, other than gushing with praise at the end-of-season awards he called the Moyes family up to the stage and presented them all with golden watches. Unbelievable.

The worst thing for me is probably the fact that in spite of all this, they'll end up with either Baines or Fellaini this summer, and at a price that hardly any Evertonians feel is sufficient.

Thanks Bill, you're the best.
