Who are you kidding? Everton med staff can't even fix Rodriguez's calf strain in under a month it seems. Either that, or they're lying their asses off about what's going on with the guy.

Ha I don't think our medical team fix broken bones themselves. I would hope not anyway.

It was a bad injury he got mate, far worse than a standard 8 week injury. I was surprised he played again when I first saw it.

It was a clean fracture to the ankle, it’s not a complex muscle injury that takes months to heal. Yeah it looks horrible when your foot is turned the other way, but it’s not a career threatening injury in any way shape or form. In fact double leg breaks don’t end careers anymore.

He is to be one of the poorest and least effective midfielders I’ve ever seen at the club. If his name was slightly less exotic he’d slot in perfectly with an early 2000’s Everton midfield.

Oh there will definitely be a mental as well as physical element to it

I wish some of the vitriol towards him could be toned down a bit from our supporters

There’s a line between criticism and just being a jerk, and some of our lot tend to cross it sometimes

tbf Mikey it's not like he's had 40k fans on his back is it? He's had a free pass in the main from his awful performances.

Unless he's signed up to GOT to check his own thread the fella probably hasn't got a clue that anyone is questioning his performances.

It's a tough one that because it's too easy to just put it all on mental health too.

I would like to think that the club would give all the support needed if that was the case and I would also like to think that Gomes is comfortable enough to say to the manager or whoever that he is not feeling it today if and when there is an issue.
I'm a bit uncomfortable with the whole mental health angle about him. It's as if people have decided that he suffers terribly from mental health related issues, but there's no evidence of that at all. He gave one interview in which he was more candid than most footballers are, and said he'd felt a bit rubbish about how bad he was playing and didn't really want to go out in Barcelona because of it. It's entirely possible that he was suffering from serious issues, but it's also possible that he just didn't really fancy getting heckled while he was having his dinner and so thought he'd stay at home. It's a big leap that people have made.

I'm no medical expert, but I'd imagine a severe break of the ankle joint is quite problematic in football, where you use the ankle joint a fair bit. He's probably very lucky to not damage any of the tendons/ligaments around that joint through the potential dislocation.

This isn't an equivalent of an 8 week thigh strain or whatever though.

I bet it gets back to him somehow

I think it's naive to expect the players not to check up on social media etc

I'd hope it does get back to him mate. It's deserved criticism beciase his performances haven't been acceptable.

If he's going through any issues off the field I think he'll be well looked after by the club. But once he crosses the white line he has to help himself and step up and if he's unable to then he needs to be completely dropped out of the squad until the time comes where he's able to.

I have to agree here.

If there is some obstacle to his improvement, then he has to be taken out of the squad for whatever problem is there, to be addressed. I'd include even a loan spell away from the club, and perhaps take a step downwards in the competitiveness of the league, for that to be facilitated if necessary.

It's not like you can compare under-performance at this level with a regular day job, but he has not delivered anything at all tangible and of note since his injury, and many people have been generous in their assessment of him on that score, and could legitimately argue that he wasn't all that either, before the injury.

This is another multi-million pound investment by the club, and I think people can very reasonably expect more from him.
