I don't think his injury is hugely to blame, but I do think he can only play in a side that has genuine ball winners in midfield.

Don't forget the first 4-5 league games in a midfield 3 with Allan and Doucoure he played really well transitioning and spreading play to the attackers. He's the only central midfielder at the club with a superb passing range. He compliments them and vice versa so there's balance.

Also his first season he had Idrissa Gaye next to him who was basically a 1 man wrecking ball who would cover for him. Last season a mix of Delph, Schniderfraud, Davies...then injury. So you can see the difference.

However, I do think the injury has hampered him being able to get around the pitch defensively. So the idea of tonight playing him in a midfield with Doucoure with Siggurdson further up the field, was never going to work. We've been there before.

Said it so many times before, he needs too much time on the ball to play in England. He was Sussed after his first season, don’t give him time and space and he is very ordinary, on the other hand, if you give him time and space he is a good player. Far more suited to one of the European leagues.

Hmm. He played the first 3 league games, was really quite average. 6/10 kinda stuff. He missed the next one and then came back against Liverpool and was diabolical. Has been every shade of awful since.

But the team looked better and balanced. People were all knocking one out over our new look midfield. Was injured for Brighton but no doubt would've played.

Poor game against the RS which is fair play. But then after that the whole team took a nose dive, not just him, and he only played in 1 of the 3 defeats which was Newcastle (I believe).

So the idea he's been woeful all season is a bit wide off the mark. The point was if you want him to improve his form, he can only play in a midfield where he's not relied upon to defend. He's a possession based player.

And at the moment, Siggurdson is on form in his position. But even shown tonight, he's not effective without Allan playing. So no doubt will fall into his invisible Man routine pretty quickly.

He’s finished IMO. Not suited to this league.

If you need someone to do your leg work then you better be creating chances, scoring goals and dictating games. He has never done the first two and hasn’t done the third for years.

Neither has Siggurdson for the most part. When he did, he had to be played in 1 position (number 10) and never touched the ball in his own half. So you can't get a player to do things he can't do and expect him to do it.

Look at Moutinho at Wolves. Flanked by two younger robust players in Neves and Dendonker who allow him to make transitioning plays because he doesn't have the legs anymore. Just used him as an example cos Gomes kinda replaced him for Portugal due to his age.

Now...Carlo gets someone like Isco in January though...he's done here.
