Neville isn't awful, only retards think he is. They're probably the same people who think Coleman is boss.
Guilty as charged.

I'd say Donovan is a very different player to Cahill.
I'd say Donovan is far more similar to Giggs.
And Donovan's game is solely based on pace, is it? Behave.

We're not at the races haven't been since 4th came and went.
All things muct pass lids, would be interesting to see the seasons we have lost say our "bigger players" what was the comparitive league position the following season, say Rooney, Lescott, Arteta....now that i thin of it loosing three players over what 10 years aint that bad really.
We never recovered from losing Lescott. Went from 6th, 5th, 5th to 8th, 7th, 7th.
Fair play mate, tbh i wasnt to happy with with the intake we got from that deal, i think we got spanked by injuries there as well which gives a bit of context.
Bily was a bad miss and we simply can't afford misses. It hurt us bad.

There are really only two ways to approach the next year or two as long as we are under current ownership.
1.) We invest the money from Rodwell and any other sales (Anichebe perhaps) on quality players who may be a bit older thus lowering their value. While these players like Clint Dempsey, Donovan, Pienaar, etc will have little sell on value in the future, they are very valuable to a squad in the present and would all be first XI players here. Under this scenario, the club has to push for Champions League football, not Europa League but Champion's League. The money we would get from qualifying would replenish our coffers and perhaps make it easier to sell the club.
2.) The money from Rodwell and others goes on younger players that Davey takes "punts on". The likes of Cahill, Faddy (Mach One), Felli and others. This strategy has worked for us in the past very often, but it has also came back and bit us with bad buys. These purchases are far riskier than scenario but could pay dividends and sustain the club.
Personally, while both are risky, scenario one is better for the club at this point. We have good youth coming through and if we can supplement older purchases with some younger ones we should be good for the time being.

Brilliant post.
I have made my feelings clear on this issue. Buying average players, maintaining them for 3 or 4 years, selling them at a small profit and then replacing them with yet more average players will lead to nothing but treading water.
We have the third best defence in the league, a decent midfield and a top striker in Jelavic. The problem is that our right hand side is very often Championship standard, adding just one top quality right sided midfielder would make a MASSIVE difference IMO.
We also have a load of new revenue coming our way next year, which will more than make up for any loss in re-sale value, and as already stated, we have plenty of players with massive re-sale value already.
Nobody is advocating signing a player like Ginola who was totally ****ed and right at the end of his career, but the likes of Donovan could have another 4 years of TOP QUALITY football in them.
