You don't pay that amount of money for a footballer nowadays unless you think he's worth a decent wage.

Really bizarre for West Ham to chase him for 4-5 months, have repeated bids - finally get one accepted and then baulk at the personal terms? Surely you'd get an indication beforehand.

I think it's face saving/he's just preferred Everton anyway - bigger profile, easier route into the team, seeing Belgians like Lukaku/Fellaini do well, cement their team in national squad and move to bigger clubs... and Lampard's profile in the game to any midfielder is what it is. Wouldn't be surprised if he had a word with Roberto Martinez too.
Apparently he asked West Ham for 150k pw

They've not balked, he's told them no. The West Ham narrative is damage control. You're exactly right.

Exactly this.

Club still has big pull for the right profile of players.

At £35m + add ons it seemed like a lot but still good, seems £25m + add ons is a fantastic deal for us given how he seems to be rated. Imagine it allows for other spending to go on too.

Even though we’d have liked it all happening earlier Lampard was right when he said we’re not the only team that are still short in some areas, think this summer has gone better than any of us had hoped for even just a few weeks ago honestly.
