Love stats, huge area of growth and the intelligent, well run clubs have their own massive in house teams of data scientists developing their own models.

We used to have the best set up around, set up by Moyes with (I think) someone called Dan Smith in charge, who left when Moyes did and is now at Man City.

However the idea that Sam is cutting edge in stats is simply not true anymore. He was 15 years ago but the world has moved on way past Wyscout and ProZone.

Personally think Allardyce is smarter than people are giving him credit for on here....

Load of my arse. If he was so up on the stats he'd know Schneiderlin has been absolutely embarrassing statistics-wise and hence he wouldn't be getting in the team.
Funnily enough someone on here proved Schneid had the best stats of our outfield players in the Arsenal game.

Go figure.

You can make statistics to work in your favour as much as you want.

The point is the football I have watched since sam took over has been dier, yes under Koeman was bad as well.

We just don’t have any identity on how we play

It’s a tricky one, you obviously want players to perform but good stats in training at least don’t guarantee performance. It’s the flair player vs grafter argument, I think you need a good balance of both and to play to actually win games. And drop Schniederlin.

Players have made comments on BBC web page about not being able to hide in training etc....

As SA has stats on their running capacity & distance during matches & training & also their passing & completed passes too....it means there is no argument if a player is not performing as Sa has the details in black & white.

This is good management & the players seem to be responding to the managers ways, they are shown their stats after every match & can see for themselves their performances...Tom Davies has been seeking advice on how to improve his performances recently & scores a goal on his return it all seems very positive to me....

What are your thoughts...
Easy for a footballer with a brain to manipulate stats by headless chicken running and constantly selecting the easiest pass sideways and backwards to the nearest player. Yawn.

At its best it's a game of passion and flair, not a computer algorithm.

I’d love to see the ‘stats’ regarding Schnerderlin this season. E.g. distance covered, tackles made, interceptions, key passes. Sam obviously doesn’t look at his stats, with his continued selection.

I'd also love to see Schneiderlins f***s given stats (sorry mods, but had to make the joke / point work).

On a serious note, BFS loves stats and thinks he has a formula to win games. From the Guardian:

"He developed a system of play based around what he called “the fantastic four”. These were tenets of the game he had found through data analysis that would serve Bolton well in their fight for Premier League survival and beyond. Bolton had to stop the opposition from scoring in at least 16 of their 38 league games to avoid relegation; if Bolton scored first they had a 70% chance of winning; set-pieces accounted for almost 33% of all goals scored; in-swinging crosses were more effective than out-swingers; and they had an 80% chance of avoiding defeat if they outran their opposition at speeds above 5.5m per second"

So basically he's probably got some minimum thresholds for the players to hit as part of some 'formula'. The beautiful game reduced to dull probability chasing.
